It is also known as "Songshou Orchid", "Small-leaf Evergreen", False Purple Grass, and so on. It is a perennial evergreen herbaceous plant in the Liliaceae family, genus Reineckea. It is found in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Henan, Shaanxi (south of the Qinling Mountains), Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi and Guangdong. It grows on shady, damp hillsides, in valleys or under dense forest, at altitudes of 170-3200 m. With its graceful plant form and verdant leaves, it is an excellent decorative houseplant. As a medicinal herb, Reineckea carnea moistens the lungs and stops coughs, dispels wind, and so on. In India, Reineckea carnea has been regarded as a sacred grass since ancient times and is an indispensable element in religious ceremonies. So let us take a look at how to grow it.

Habits

First, its temperature requirement is warmth, and its humidity requirement is slightly moist. In addition, it is fairly shade-tolerant, so its demand for light duration is not very high; if the sunlight is too intense, the leaves will turn yellow. However, no light at all is also not acceptable. From small plants to all living things, most need the support of sunlight to survive and reproduce; if light is lacking, its growth will be very slow. In addition, it is fairly adaptable, so its requirements for soil quality are not especially high, but to ensure that all conditions are suitable we still need to pay attention.

Growing Conditions

Temperature: We have already discussed this plant's temperature requirements above, so in view of this, no special attention is needed in spring, summer and autumn, but in winter some regions must pay attention; if the temperature is very low, be sure to take some cold-protection measures.

Water: If the potting soil is too dry or the air humidity is too low, the leaf tips of this plant may become dry and withered. So, to avoid this phenomenon, we must keep the soil in a slightly moist state at ordinary times. If the air humidity is too low, spray water promptly to replenish moisture.

Sunlight: In view of the requirements above, we can place this plant in a spot where it receives indirect light.

Soil: Considering the requirements for soil drainage and fertility, we can mix leaf mold, garden soil and sand to prepare the growing medium, specifically in a ratio of 2:1:1.

Points to Note

Although it likes moisture, if summer falls in a rainy season, attention must also be paid not to let it become too waterlogged.
