Recently many people have been raising peacocks, so today I will share with everyone the artificial peacock breeding technology

Peacock meat is excellent in quality, and its protein and amino acid content and bone calcium content are far higher than those of ordinary poultry, while its fat content is low. According to the new US food standards, it has reached the "extremely lean" edible meat standard. At present, peacocks are selling very well in domestic and international markets. This year alone, Guangzhou has already sold 40,000 peacocks, and including Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Zhongshan, Shantou and other places, the annual sales volume is expected to reach 500,000. In addition, demand in markets such as Western Europe and Southeast Asia is even greater. At present, the market price of peacocks is 60 yuan per kilogram. Generally, after 8 months of rearing, a peacock can reach a weight of 3 to 3.5 kilograms. After deducting costs, each bird can yield a profit of more than 130 yuan. Raising peacocks is a good way for farmers to become wealthy, especially in rural areas rich in wild plant resources.

Peacocks have a relatively omnivorous diet. They eat plant seeds, rice grain, sprouts, grass seeds, green vegetables, etc., and also eat some berries, as well as some insects such as crickets, grasshoppers and small moths. Artificially raised peacocks can be sold after 8 to 10 months, and their lifespan is 20 to 25 years.

Breeding Technology

1. Site and equipment. Peacocks are easy to raise and breed, and the breeding conditions required are not high. Generally, they can be kept in pairs or with 1 male and 2 to 3 females in the same cage, and they can also be raised in a large free-range area, but a fixed feeding location is needed. The house is generally 5 x 5 x 5 m, and large-range free-range raising is also possible, covered with wire mesh (mesh openings 1.5 to 2.0 cm). The inside of the cage should preferably be earth, with perches installed or some roosting sites built. The house should face south with its back to the north, be on higher ground, and have sufficient light, so that it is warm in winter and relatively cool in summer. The floor of the house should have a hard base covered with sandy soil, and a perch should be installed at a height of 2 m. The cage and house should be in a remote location, and the surroundings should be quiet.

2. Feeding methods. For animal feed, use minced meat, cooked eggs, insects, fish meal, flour, etc.; plant-based feed includes grain feed and mixed feed. Grain feed includes sorghum, corn, barley, hemp seed or perilla seed. At the same time, according to the peacock's growth and development, feed it nutritious and easily digestible feed, mainly protein, vitamin and mineral feed. The daily feeding frequency is roughly carried out according to three growth stages: 1 to 10 days of age, feed four times a day; 11 to 30 days of age, feed three times a day; 31 to 90 days of age, feed 2 to 3 times a day; for those over 90 days of age and adult peacocks, feeding is the same, all using the method of feeding 2 to 3 times a day.

3. Peacock management. Try to keep the environment quiet, and strictly prohibit noisy sounds. Give a signal before entering the house to feed each time, to establish a food conditioned reflex. Every day, carefully clean the cage and house and remove manure. If loose manure or bloody manure is found, it should be tested as soon as possible and treated promptly. The bedding should be clean and changed frequently, and feeding utensils and drinking utensils should be scrubbed daily and scalded and disinfected once a week.

4. Disease prevention and control. The principle of giving priority to prevention and using treatment as a supplement must be adopted. The main infectious diseases of peacocks include Newcastle disease, Marek's disease, pullorum disease, fowl pox, etc. In order to avoid the occurrence of these diseases, first of all, strict daily hygiene work should be carried out. Every spring and autumn, a comprehensive clean-up and whole-site disinfection should be conducted, the sand in the cage and house should be thoroughly removed, and after disinfection with 3% to 5% cresol soap, new sand should be replaced. Regular preventive vaccination should be carried out according to regulations. During the rainy season, pay attention to moisture prevention, and regularly administer deworming medicine, generally with half a month to 1 month as one treatment course. To prevent enteritis, a 0.1% potassium permanganate aqueous solution can be fed appropriately.

5. Explanation of feed formula. In the feed formulas for peacocks of all ages, for every 100 kg of feed, 20 g of multivitamins, 100 g of trace elements, and 100 g of methionine (lysine) need to be added. Practice has proved that, calculated at the current feed market price of 2 yuan per kilogram, this formula can reduce costs by about 50%, and it is relatively suitable for farmer households to use.
