Common storage methods for garden flower and tree seeds

Common storage methods for garden flower and tree seeds fall into two categories: dry storage and wet storage
1. Dry storage:Suitable for seeds with low moisture content. Commonly used methods include ordinary dry storage and sealed dry storage.
1. Ordinary dry storage: suitable for the seeds of most trees, shrubs and herbaceous flowers. The seeds should be fully dried before storage, then put into seed bags or barrels and placed in a cool, ventilated and dry room. Depending on the length of storage and the storage conditions, ventilation and moisture-absorbing equipment or desiccants should be used as appropriate.
2. Sealed dry storage: ordinary dry storage is not suitable for long-term seed storage, especially for some seeds that have lost their germination capacity, so the sealed dry storage method can be used. That is, place the dried seeds in an airtight container, add an appropriate amount of desiccant to the container, and check regularly and replace the desiccant. Sealed dry storage can effectively extend seed life, and the effect is even better when combined with low-temperature conditions.
2. Wet storage:Suitable for seeds with higher moisture content. It is often limited to overwintering storage and is often combined with germination promotion. Generally, seeds are mixed with wet sand or other substrate at 3 times the volume of the seeds, buried underground with good drainage or piled indoors, and kept at a certain humidity. There is also the method of layering seeds with sand, which is the so-called stratified storage. This type of method can effectively maintain seed vitality and also has a germination-promoting effect, improving the uniformity of seed sprouting. In addition, the seeds of some aquatic flowers, such as water lilies and lotus, must be stored in water to maintain their germination capacity.
