Friends who love orchids all know that watering orchids is a difficult technique to master. To a certain extent, whether an orchid is grown well or not depends on whether it is watered well. The process of growing orchids is the watering process of the orchid grower. The following two orchid watering behaviors have drowned who knows how many orchids.

Behavior one: watering orchids with alkaline water. Orchids like slightly acidic water and soil. If you water orchids with alkaline water, you will slowly water them to death. The correct approach is to use pH test paper to test the acidity and alkalinity of the water, and only use it to water orchids after confirming it is slightly acidic water. For watering orchids, it is best to collect rainwater to use. City orchid growers mostly use tap water. It is recommended to let the water sit for 3 days before using it to water orchids.

Behavior two: pouring water into the new shoots. Orchid seedlings have relatively tender leaves, and they rot with the slightest carelessness. Therefore, when watering orchids, it is best not to splash water into the tender shoots. If water accidentally splashes into the tender shoots of the orchid, you must immediately use a fan or hair dryer to blow the water in the tender shoots dry, or you can carry the flower pot to a ventilated place to let it dry.

How do you judge that an orchid needs watering? One method is to look at the pot-surface grass. Orchids are more drought-tolerant than ordinary plants. If the orchid pot has pot-surface grass, we can use the pot-surface grass as a reference. Wait until the pot-surface grass starts to wilt before considering watering the orchid.

Watering orchids is a very complicated matter, and orchid growers need to handle it flexibly according to the specific orchid-growing environment, the water retention of the potting medium, the weather, the size of the plant, the strength of the plant, and so on. Generally speaking, when you water, water thoroughly. But water flowing out from the bottom of the flower pot does not necessarily mean it has been watered thoroughly. You have to look specifically at what kind of potting medium it is. Some potting media have relatively poor water absorption, and water will flow out no matter how little you pour. Inexperienced orchid growers still think it has been watered thoroughly, but in fact the potting medium is still dry.
