Detailed Explanation of Key Points for Artificial Breeding Technology of Snow Trout
Snow trout, also known as Qikou fish, is a special small fish species found in the plateau regions of Asia. Although this fish is rarely seen, its yield and nutrient content are no less than those of fish with excellent sales on the market. At present, most snow trout are still wild-caught. As people's demand for it increases, artificial breeding has become an inevitable trend in its development. Today, the editor will introduce the artificial breeding technology of snow trout. If you are interested, you can learn more about snow trout through the following text.

1. Pond Preparation
Snow trout has very high requirements for water quality, so before breeding, the site selection and construction of the pond are very important. First, we must ensure that the water source around the pond is sufficient and the water quality is pollution-free. Second, the pond should be built in a flowing-water style, which can imitate natural rivers and create a semi-wild environment for breeding, thereby increasing the survival rate of snow trout. In addition, the water body in the pond should achieve a natural exchange effect, meaning there should be both outflow and inflow, with certain angles at both the outlet and inlet. Finally, the walls of the breeding pond should be built smooth, which can avoid abrasions on the fish. At the same time, it is best to lay a layer of sand and gravel at the bottom of the pond, which can also purify the water quality and help control the water temperature.
2. Artificial Propagation
The first step in artificial propagation is to select good brood fish. For female snow trout brood fish, it is best to choose ones weighing about one jin and four liang, while for male brood fish, it is best to choose ones weighing about one jin. Then observe the characteristics of the male and female fish and select healthy ones with strong reproductive capacity. The second step is the cultivation of parent fish. Select excellent reserve parent fish and place them in a dedicated pond for breeding. After the parent fish have fully developed, you can proceed to the next stage -- artificial induced spawning. For artificial induced spawning, note that it is generally carried out from February to April, the water temperature should be controlled between 15 and 20 degrees, and then hormones are injected into the parent fish, which are placed in a spawning pond for artificial insemination. Finally, after artificial insemination is completed, hatching and fry production can begin. During hatching, we should keep the temperature at around 18 degrees, and the hatching period is about 7 to 10 days. At the same time, we must also take measures to prevent water mold so as not to affect the hatching rate of the eggs.
3. Fry Cultivation
After the eggs hatch, the fry are at their weakest stage. If we want to increase the survival rate of the fry, we must do a good job in fry cultivation management. First is the regulation of water temperature, which should generally be kept between 15 and 20 degrees. Second, the water flow speed in the breeding pond should not be too fast. About one week after the fry completely shed their membranes, they need to be fed, generally with egg yolk, 6 to 7 times a day, with one egg yolk per 10,000 fry, and not too much. After about 7 days, the feed needs to be changed, generally using soybean milk. After 20 days, we can carry out normal feeding. During this period, we also need to observe the growth and health of the fry, clean the breeding pond every day, and disinfect the breeding pond every week to prevent pests and diseases from harming the growth of the fry.
4. Breeding Management
Breeding management is the most critical stage that determines the yield and quality of snow trout. First, we should divide the fry into groups for rearing and reasonably control the rearing density of fry in the pond. Second, according to the size of the fry and their feeding situation, reasonably feed earthworms and other feed. In addition, water quality and water level should be adjusted. Placing sand and gravel at the bottom of the pond can increase the oxygen content in the water. During the hatching period, the water level should be controlled at around 50 cm. When the fry are first released, it should be controlled at around 70 cm. Later, as they gradually grow, the water level can be deepened, generally not exceeding two m at most. Finally, preparations should be made for preventing escape, theft, and pests and diseases.
Artificial breeding of snow trout can actually be regarded as a very ecological and environmentally friendly breeding technology, and using this breeding technology for snow trout farming also guarantees product quality, so if you are interested, you can carefully learn more about it.
