What to Do If Silkworms Do Not Spin Cocoons? Cause Analysis and Control Methods
I. Causes of silkworms not spinning cocoons:
1. Pathological factors. For example, pebrine and flacherie are prone to infection and disease before mounting, which destroys the silk gland secretion function of silkworms, or the pathogens produce large amounts of toxic metabolites in the silkworm body, paralyzing the silkworm's nerves and preventing them from spinning silk and forming cocoons;
2. Physiological factors. The first is abnormality of the middle silk gland, mainly caused by rearing temperature being too high or too low, leaf quality being too tender, secretory gland disorder, etc., causing silk gland abnormality and preventing spinning; the second is abnormality of the anterior silk gland, mainly caused by exposure to excessive coal gas, fishy odors, alcohol and other harmful gases during rearing, causing spinning impairment;
3. Trace pesticide poisoning. During rearing or mounting, silkworms ingesting or contacting trace amounts of pesticides causes endocrine gland disorder in the silkworm body, preventing spinning;
4. Improper mounting operations. Rough mounting operations cause rupture of the silkworm silk glands, or too low temperature in the mounting cluster, unclean mounting tools, overcrowding during mounting, poor mounting environment and other reasons cause silkworms to stop spinning for a long time and fail to form cocoons.
II. Control methods:
1. Prevent silkworm diseases and strengthen management. First, strictly control disinfection, eliminate pathogens, cut off transmission routes, and do a good job of disinfecting the rearing room, rearing tools and the surroundings of the rearing room. Spray disinfection with 1% effective chlorine bleaching powder solution or 1%-2% fresh limewater clarified solution; second, strengthen feeding management to enhance silkworm body resistance. Select silkworm breeds with strong disease resistance to avoid the impact of hot and stuffy summer and autumn weather on silkworm growth, maintain suitable temperature and humidity in the rearing room, fresh air, and a clean rearing bed. During the grown silkworm stage, supplement with chloramphenicol, 1-2 times per instar, with each milliliter containing 500 units of chloramphenicol;
2. Strictly prevent trace pesticide poisoning. Prevent feeding mulberry leaves contaminated by pesticides (test-feed before each feeding), prevent the rearing room, rearing tools and @#@250@#@ supplies from pesticide contamination, ensure pesticides are not stacked in the rearing room, pesticides are not placed in rearing tools, and sericulture supplies do not contact pesticides;
3. Mounting operations should be meticulous. During mounting, achieve the "three uniformities" and "three dryness". The three uniformities are: uniform maturity degree of ripe silkworms, not unevenly mature; uniform mounting density, not unevenly dense; uniform ripening during mounting, not unevenly old. The three dryness are: dry mounting room, dry mounting tools, and dry environment.
