Detailed Introduction to the Preparation Methods of Medicated Fish Bait
Treatment and prevention of fish diseases generally use pond spraying of drugs and mixing drugs into feed for feeding, which is what we usually call the oral method. The effectiveness of the oral method in treating and preventing fish diseases depends on the preparation of the medicated bait. Several commonly used preparation methods of medicated bait in production practice and precautions are introduced as follows:
1. Preparation methods of several medicated baits
1. Preparation of pellet feed medicated bait: Calculate the required feed and drugs, spread the feed evenly on a plastic film (the thickness should be uniform, not too thick), fully dissolve the drugs, pour into a sprayer and add water to dilute. Use the sprayer to evenly spray the drugs onto the feed, wait 5-10 minutes, turn the feed over and spray again, repeat 2-3 times continuously until the drugs are completely and evenly sprayed onto the feed. Finally, dry and bag for later use.
2. Preparation of floating medicated bait: The feed used for preparing this kind of medicated bait is generally rice bran or wheat bran, and the binder is elm bark powder, sweet potato powder or flour. Calculate the required drugs and feed, mix them evenly with the binder, add an appropriate amount of hot water and blend. According to needs, make into blocks, strips or pellets of moderate hardness. Dry, bag, and set aside.
3. Preparation of sinking medicated bait: The feed used for preparing this kind of medicated bait is generally rapeseed cake or soybean cake, and the binder and preparation method are the same as those for floating medicated bait.
4. Preparation of green feed medicated bait: Cut the green feed into 3-5 cm small sections, mix the required drugs with an appropriate amount of binder (elm bark powder, sweet potato powder or flour) into a paste, mix well with the cut green feed sections, dry and feed.
II. Precautions
1. Accurately estimate the feeding amount of medicated bait, generally prepare and use on the spot, and prevent the medicated bait from becoming moldy.
2. The feed for preparing medicated bait must be selected from what the fish likes to eat most, can be ground into powder (except pellet feed), and the floating and sinking properties of the prepared medicated bait should be similar to the feeding habits of the fish. For example, use floating rice bran or wheat bran for grass carp, and sinking rapeseed cake or soybean cake for carp and crucian carp.
3. The viscosity of the binder should be moderate. If the viscosity is insufficient, the medicated bait will disperse after encountering water, affecting the drug effect; but it should not be too viscous either, so as not to affect the fish's absorption. Commonly used binders include elm bark powder, sweet potato powder, potato powder, flour, etc., and elm bark powder is the best. Generally, add 300 g of elm bark powder per kg of rice bran, and add 200 g of elm bark powder per kg of rapeseed cake.
4. If it is not pellet feed, it is best to process the medicated bait into pellets with a particle size matching the fish. When feeding medicated bait, generally stop feeding for one day, and the feeding amount should be 20%-30% less than usual, with 6 days as one course of treatment.
