What causes chickens to keep dying?

Livestock Farming 0 views
Inadequate preparation. Before the chicks arrive, the coop is not thoroughly disinfected, heating equipment is lacking, and the chicks are not given water and feed early enough after entering the coop, so careful brooding and the rearing of strong chicks cannot be achieved. In winter, only the insulation of the chicks is attended to while that of the growing and adult chickens is neglected, causing heavy deaths. Lack of long-term planning. The coop is crude, the basic facilities and technical conditions are poor, and the birds are highly affected by the external environment. For example, coal stoves are often used for heating during the brooding period and cannot adjust the temperature automatically, so the temperature rises and falls erratically, easily causing disease and death in the chickens.

Ignorance of @#@230@#@ technology. Many chicken farmers care only about profit, not about science. Therefore, when prices are good they bring in more chicks, and keep 2~3 flocks of different breeds and different ages in the same coop, with high density and poor ventilation, so that all-in-all-out management and strict disinfection are simply impossible; as a result, pathogens are passed down from generation to generation, their virulence increases, diseases break out everywhere, and the difficulty of prevention, diagnosis and treatment increases.

Irrational use of drugs. Among many chicken farmers there is the phenomenon of using drugs indiscriminately or not using them at all. Using drugs too late delays treatment; using them in excess easily causes poisoning; sticking to old drugs causes pathogens to develop drug resistance, and so on. In addition, there are currently many counterfeit and substandard drugs on the market, and farmers find it hard to tell the genuine from the fake, which is also a cause of chicken deaths and rising raising costs.

Extensive management. The coop is poorly sanitised and disinfection is neglected, resulting in serious colibacillosis, mycoplasmosis and the like. When the flock is medicated, morbidity and mortality drop markedly, but 2~3 days after the drugs are stopped the diseases recur, which is caused by severe environmental contamination. Some sick and weak chickens are not isolated and dealt with in time, dead chickens and droppings are not properly rendered harmless, and rodent and insect control is not institutionalised, causing the spread of pathogens and repeated infection, which increases the difficulty of treatment.
