Key Techniques and Detailed Methods for Catching Crab in Large Water Bodies
In autumn, the gonads of adult crabs begin to mature, preparing for their annual reproductive migration. At this time, river crabs raised in large water bodies such as lakes, reservoirs and rivers should be harvested in a timely manner to avoid losses caused by escaping crabs.
I. Catching time
Determining a suitable crab-catching time is key to improving @#@235@#@ benefits; it should be neither too early nor too late. Too early will affect the growth of river crabs and is not conducive to increasing yield; too late, and the sexually mature river crabs will escape, causing losses. The suitable catching time should be comprehensively considered based on factors such as the source of the river crabs, stocking size and temperature conditions. Generally speaking, river crabs of the Yangtze River system can begin to be caught around the Autumn Equinox each year; river crabs of the Liao River system can be caught appropriately earlier. The specific catching time should be after the river crabs' last reproductive molt. In autumn, the growth and molting of river crabs should be observed frequently; once most river crabs have molted, catching can begin 10 to 15 days later. At this time, the river crabs have dark shell color, good constitution, will not die, and tolerate manual handling.
II. Catching methods
There are many methods for catching crabs; tools such as cast nets and gill nets can be used, and ground cages and river enclosures can also be used to catch them. Before operation, generally first clear debris from the catching site, remove aquatic plants, and leave appropriate space for river crab activity, then set up nets at night and catch at night. Before catching, placing medicated bait in the operation site or in the nets to lure them gives better catching results. After catching for a period, artificially stimulate them with slight flowing water to increase the river crabs' sensitivity, making them move vigorously and be caught. For the same water body, multiple methods can be used for comprehensive catching?
III. Post-catch handling
There are two ways to handle the mature river crabs after catching: one is to @#@136@#@ in a timely manner; the other is to temporarily keep them. River crabs for sale should be classified by size and priced according to quality; for river crabs kept temporarily, injured crabs, damaged crabs, weak crabs and dead crabs should be removed, and individuals with uniform size, complete limbs, blue backs and white bellies, and free of disease and healthy should be selected as much as possible. After disinfection, they are placed in a previously prepared temporary holding pond for fattening cultivation to improve quality, and when the price is suitable, they are caught and sold.
