How to Care for Feverish Sick Pigs? A Detailed Guide to Scientific Care Methods
The normal body temperature of pigs is 38°C-40°C; if it persistently exceeds 40°C, it is fever. Prolonged continuous high fever accelerates the body's catabolism, disrupts digestive function, lowers resistance, and can even cause coma or heart failure. The treatment principles for feverish sick pigs are as follows:
Feverish sick pigs should be isolated immediately, and the contaminated environment should be thoroughly disinfected. Before the cause is identified, as long as the fever is not excessively high, generally do not use antipyretic drugs at will.
While using antibacterial drugs, attention should be paid to supplementing nutrients, such as glucose saline, electrolytes (inorganic salts), B vitamins, and vitamin C.
During the antipyretic period, to prevent collapse, care should be taken to protect heart function, and drugs such as adrenaline can be injected when necessary. Care should be strengthened, various stresses should be avoided, and special attention should be paid to the three key factors of ambient temperature, humidity, and ventilation. Sick pigs should be fed easily digestible and palatable green fodder or feed relatively rich in carbohydrates.
