Pigeon torticollis can be treated with Compound Danshen Tablets

Compound Danshen Tablets are made from Danshen (Salvia miltiorrhiza), borneol, Sanqi (Panax notoginseng) and other medicinal herbs, and have the effects of activating blood and removing stasis, cooling blood and relieving pain, nourishing blood and calming the nerves; opening the orifices and refreshing the mind, detoxifying and relieving pain; stopping bleeding and dispersing stasis, and eliminating carbuncles and swellings. They should be effective in treating pigeons with torticollis that have had pigeon plague. For this reason, I carried out a series of experiments, and have excerpted the 2002 treatment log as follows:

(1) On April 28, a Wusong-line inbred pigeon that had had torticollis for more than 8 months was given Compound Danshen Tablets, Vc, VB1; and B12, 1 tablet each, once in the morning and once in the evening.

(2) On May 9, after 11 consecutive days of the same drug treatment, the twisted head and neck of the Wuji pigeon had clearly straightened, but it still showed nervous hypersensitivity reactions. At the same time, among the pigeons trained this year in Mianxian, Shaanxi, over 400 km, 9 were infected, and after being given erythromycin and B1, the condition was brought under control, of which 6 had torticollis. Starting today, Danshen Tablets plus Vc, VB1, and intramuscular injection of 0.5/m vitamin B12 were used for treatment.

(3) On May 11, after 3 days of injections and medication, apart from 1 inbred pigeon that showed no effect, the remaining 5 were already able to eat a small amount, and it was decided to continue the medication.

(4) On May 22, having been treated all along with Danshen Tablets supplemented with vitamin tablets, all 5 sick pigeons were cured. The first Wusong hen that had been given Compound Danshen Tablets laid her first pair of eggs. (After May 12, intramuscular B12 injections were stopped and changed to oral B12 tablets, 2 tablets each time.) During the experiment, the sick pigeons were all kept in individual cages far from the loft, with light blocked, and this was maintained for more than 20 days. The "sickroom" was relatively dark and free from disturbance, @#@247@#@ the pigeons were calm in spirit, which had a certain auxiliary effect on treatment.

Compound Danshen Tablets are mild in medicinal action, and treatment requires patience, starting from treating the root cause. Some pigeons have largely recovered their eating function after one week of medication, but it is not yet consolidated. If symptoms remain, the medication must be continued for 10 days. Only after the sick pigeon's mind is completely normal can it be released back into the main loft; releasing it back too early will cause a relapse.
