Precautions for Spring Transport and Stocking of Fish Fry

Spring returns to the earth, water temperatures gradually rise, and it is once again the best time of year for transporting aquatic fry and fingerlings. During this period, because water temperatures are relatively low, fish are less active, and at the same time their bodies are firm and scales tight, so they are less likely to be injured during transport, which can increase the survival rate of spring stocking of fingerlings. There are many precautions in the spring transport and spring stocking of fingerlings, and fishermen friends are reminded to pay attention to them.

1. Pond disinfection should be carried out after removing excess sludge from the pond, reinforcing the pond embankment, and clearing the inlet and drainage ditches. Generally, for a dry pond, use about 200kg of quicklime per mu, slake it into a slurry, and while it is hot, sprinkle it evenly over the whole pond, or use more than 10kg of bleaching powder per mu, dissolve it in water, and sprinkle it evenly over the whole pond, so as to kill diseases and pests in the pond. Fertilizing the water is carried out 5 to 7 days after pond disinfection. Add fresh water (install fine mesh nets at the inlet and outlet to prevent wild and miscellaneous fish from entering), and apply 200kg/mu to 500kg/mu of fermented livestock and poultry manure as base fertilizer (the base fertilizer may also be applied before adding fresh water to the pond), in order to cultivate the basic bait organisms in the pond water. For newly dug ponds or lean-water ponds, the amount of fertilizer applied should be increased accordingly. Stock @#@233@#@ after pond disinfection and water fertilizing.

2. The net-pulling operation before spring transport of fingerlings must be done carefully. During the net-pulling process, avoid injuring the fish, and after netting, load and transport them quickly to avoid the fingerlings staying in the net for a long time and colliding with each other, which artificially causes injury to the fish. Excess fingerlings that are not to be transported should be promptly returned so that they can recover their health as soon as possible. Fingerlings must not stay in the net cage for a long time, as this easily causes the surface mucus of the fingerlings to shed and leads to infection by pathogens.

3. During the transport of fingerlings, the speed must be fast, and they must not stay on the road for a long time. If traffic congestion is encountered, promptly turn around and take a detour, so as to deliver the fingerlings to the destination in the shortest possible time.

4. The water used for transport must be fresh, with a high dissolved oxygen content, and low in temperature and non-toxic. Generally, river water is best; pond water and reservoir water can also be used. Tap water has a relatively high chloride ion content and must not be used. Well water has a high content of heavy metal ions and low dissolved oxygen, and must not be used.

5. During transport, the suitable temperature range for fingerlings is generally 1°C to 20°C. Within this temperature range, the lower the better. The lower the temperature, the slower the fish metabolism, and the higher the transport survival rate. When loading fish and releasing fingerlings into the pond, pay attention to the temperature difference in water temperature, which generally must not exceed ±4°C.

6. Before stocking, fingerlings must undergo strict immersion disinfection of the fish body, so as to kill bacteria and parasites on the body surface of the fish and avoid bringing diseases and pests into the breeding pond. The method is to place the fingerlings in a basin or bucket container holding the medicine and soak them. Generally, when the water temperature is 10°C to 20°C, the dosage of bleaching powder is 10g per cubic meter of water, and the soaking time is 10 minutes to 20 minutes; or use a 2% to 4% salt solution, with a washing time of 5 minutes. When soaking and disinfecting fingerlings, special attention must be paid to the tolerance of the fingerlings. Once more serious floating to the surface occurs, immediately scoop the fingerlings out and put them into the pond as soon as possible.
