During the piglets' peak feeding period, add more feed to stretch their bellies and speed up weight gain.
After weaning, the amount of feed piglets consume gradually increases with age in days. Generally, at around 35 days of age, they begin to show greedy eating and scrambling for food. This vigorous feeding phenomenon is called "peak feeding." Between the start of the peak feeding period and 60 days of age, piglets can double their body weight, with daily gains reaching more than 0.5 kg. The main measures for rapid weight gain during the piglets' peak feeding period are:
Feed on a fixed schedule, feed small amounts frequently. Starting from 30 days of age, the number of feedings should be increased, generally 5-6 times a day, and at fixed times, so that the piglets develop the habit of eating on schedule. Feeding piglets on a fixed schedule lets them experience fullness and hunger, which can both improve digestion and maintain appetite, without affecting the intake at the next meal. At each feeding, you must also feed small amounts frequently, which not only suits the piglets' competitive eating habits but also better matches their preference for fresh feed. Each time fresh feed is added, the piglets scramble for it and inadvertently eat a little more. At the same time, feeding small amounts frequently can reduce feed waste.
Cater to their preferences and fill their bellies. Taking advantage of the piglets' greater feed intake in the evening, first feed ordinary feed, then mix in some fish meal and other feed to get them to eat more; when the piglets are nearly full, feed them the feed they like, such as pelleted corn, sprouted barley, melons, and so on. Finally, feed green fodder and provide clean drinking water. In this way, the piglets' bellies will stretch larger and larger, and their appetite will become stronger and stronger.
Keep the feed stable and focus on the big meal. During the peak feeding stage, the piglets' feed must remain stable and not change too much. Once piglets are used to a certain feed, a sudden change often affects the amount consumed, or even causes them to stop eating, and it takes several days before they gradually adapt. If there is another change, the appetite is affected even more. The piglets' big meal time is in the afternoon in winter and in the evening in summer. During this period, the piglets' feed intake can account for more than half of the whole day's feed, and it is the peak time for piglet feeding.
Increase protein feed and supplement trace elements. During the peak feeding stage, piglets grow very quickly and absorb protein very efficiently. Therefore, attention should be paid to supplementing protein feed and trace elements. More soybean cake, soybean residue, fish meal, or small fish and small shrimp can be fed. Diarrhea generally does not occur, and it can promote peak feeding and make the piglets grow faster.
