What are the precautions for giving injections to sick snakes?

Practice has proven that giving injections to sick snakes is the best way to cure snake diseases, but the following points must be noted. (1) Avoid injecting the tail. Many novice snake keepers, influenced by the fact that people receive injections in the buttocks when ill, believe that the best site for injecting a snake is the tail, not realizing that the snake's tail is densely packed with nerves. A slight mistake can cause nerve damage to the tail, making the sick snake uncomfortable, and in severe cases leading to death. Therefore, when injecting a sick snake, one should choose the muscle-rich areas below the heart and on both sides of the spine. (2) Avoid using a thick needle. (1) Avoid injecting the tail.

Using a thick needle to inject a sick snake, because the needle punctures shallowly and leaves a large needle hole, makes the medicinal liquid easy to leak out after injection, and due to the direct cause of the large needle hole, it can sometimes lead to inflammation and bleeding at the injection site, thereby reducing the prevention and treatment effect it should have.

(3) Avoid vertical puncture at the chest. When giving a sick snake an intramuscular injection, it is not advisable to choose vertical puncture at the chest, because snakes have a thin thoracic cavity with basically no muscle, and vertical puncture easily penetrates the chest cavity, injecting the medicinal liquid into the thoracic cavity and causing death. The correct method is: insert the needle horizontally through the gaps between the snake's scales, and never inject deeply.

(4) Avoid injecting a large amount of medicinal liquid at one spot. The muscle thickness of snakes is much thinner than that of poultry. If a large amount of medicinal liquid is injected at one injection point at one time, it easily causes local muscle damage and is extremely unfavorable for the rapid absorption of the medicinal liquid. The medicinal liquid should be injected into the sick snake's muscles in divided doses at multiple points. Especially when injecting commonly used drugs with strong irritation such as penicillin, the method of divided injection at multiple points should be adopted, which can effectively reduce the pain brought to the sick snake by slow absorption.
