What kind of fish is the silver crucian carp? A comprehensive introduction to its breed characteristics
The silver crucian carp, also known as the Japanese crucian carp, the Osumi crucian carp, the Kawachi crucian carp, etc. Because the silver crucian carp has advantages such as a wide feeding habit, fast growth, large individual size, a high catch rate, and few diseases, it can grow, develop, mature, and spawn well in all kinds of freshwater bodies in our country, and is generally welcomed by @#@233@#@, and has already been promoted over large areas in many provinces and cities in our country. 1. Breed origin The silver crucian carp is native to Japan's long-standing Lake Biwa. Around 1897, a fisherman from Kawachi District, Osaka Prefecture, moved it into inland rivers and ponds for rearing. After many years of domestication and careful selection and breeding, a pure-line superior breed was obtained, hence the name Kawachi crucian carp. In March 1976, Guangdong in our country introduced it from Japan for trial rearing. In February 1977, based on the Osumi crucian carp's silvery-white body color and the fact that its feeding habit, gill raker structure, and habits are all similar to those of the silver carp, its Chinese name was determined as "silver crucian carp." 2. Characteristics The silver crucian carp has a silvery-white body color, a relatively large body, a deep and laterally compressed body, a raised anterior back resembling a camel's hump, a slightly small head, a relatively slender caudal peduncle, and a relatively large mouth cleft. The body length is 2.1-3.1 times the body height, the lateral line scales are 30-32, and the number of gill rakers is relatively high, at 102-120; the inner side of the gill rakers has many branches and bears spines, forming a net-like structure. The silver crucian carp is an omnivorous fish that mainly feeds on plant-based food such as phytoplankton. In the early fry stage, it mainly feeds on zooplankton, primarily rotifers. In the later stage, it begins to feed on phytoplankton. When the body length is 15-25 mm, it is the main stage of feeding habit transformation. In the fingerling and adult fish stages, the silver crucian carp mainly feeds on phytoplankton, and also eats a certain amount of organic detritus and aquatic insects. The silver crucian carp likes to live in the middle and upper layers of water bodies and has strong tolerance to changes in water quality and low dissolved oxygen. In water bodies with dissolved oxygen below 0.2 mg per liter, it can still survive for several hours, and only when it is below 0.1 mg/L does it cause death. It also has broad adaptability to temperature and can feed and grow normally all year round. In natural waters or under artificial breeding conditions, the growth rate of the silver crucian carp is noticeably faster than that of the common crucian carp. In the southern regions of our country, in water bodies with good growth conditions, the silver crucian carp can reach sexual maturity at 1 winter of age. Its reproductive habits are similar to those of carp and crucian carp. It is a normal diploid sexually reproductive population and can also reproduce naturally in still water. In natural waters, it begins to spawn when the water temperature reaches above 17°C. The most suitable spawning water temperature is around 20°C. It lays eggs and belongs to the batch-spawning type.
