This disease is an acute, febrile infectious disease caused by the swine pox virus, in which pox lesions appear on the mucous membranes of certain parts of the skin. When the weather is rainy and cold, the pigpen is damp and filthy, and the pigs are malnourished, the epidemic is severe, with high morbidity and mortality rates. It often occurs in piglets aged 4-6 weeks. When the disease occurs, the sick pig's body temperature rises above 41°C, it stops eating, the inflamed eyelids are stuck together by secretions, the nostrils run with mucus or become blocked, and red spots appear on parts of the body with sparse hair such as the snout, eyelids, inner thighs, and lower abdomen,

When the disease occurs, the sick pig's body temperature rises above 41°C, it stops eating, the inflamed eyelids are stuck together by secretions, the nostrils run with mucus or become blocked, and red spots and papules appear on parts of the body with sparse hair such as the snout, eyelids, inner thighs, and lower abdomen, which later turn into blisters containing clear exudate, and then into pus. Because the affected areas itch, the pigs often rub against things, the pox blisters rupture and form scabs, and the local skin thickens and wrinkles like leather. In addition, pox lesions can also occur in the oral cavity, pharynx, trachea, and bronchi. If management is improper, pneumonia, gastroenteritis, septicemia, and other conditions often follow, and then death occurs.

[Prevention and treatment measures]

(1) Strengthen feeding management and maintain good environmental hygiene at ordinary times. After the disease occurs, isolate the sick pigs, and the scabs and other filth on the skin should be gathered together and piled up for fermentation. Give the sick pigs soft, thin feed, and keep the pigpen dry to prevent drafts from invading.

(2) To prevent secondary infection, antibiotics and sulfonamide drugs can be used. For local lesions, wash with 10% potassium permanganate solution, and after drying, apply gentian violet, iodine glycerin, etc.
