Management Methods and Technical Key Points for Adult Scorpion Breeding
The Chinese scorpion (Mesobuthus martensii) generally enters the adult stage after molting 6 times. At this point, individuals that are large and robust can be selected as @#@257@#@ breeding scorpions. The period from April to September is the breeding and mating season for scorpions. Female and male scorpions can be kept together in a ratio of 3:1 and allowed to mate freely. The site for breeding scorpions should be clean and quiet, with more fresh, juicy, and nutritious food provided, and the temperature and humidity should be suitable. The density of breeding scorpions should be reduced appropriately. During the period when the female scorpion is carrying young, its nutritional requirements are greater and better than those of ordinary scorpions. Therefore, more fresh and juicy insect feed should be provided, so that pregnant scorpions remain in a state of eating enough and eating well, thereby ensuring the normal development of the young scorpions. Care should also be taken not to frequently turn over the nest or disturb them, or casually catch the pregnant scorpions, and they must not be disturbed by strong light or frightened by noise; before giving birth, it is best to keep them separately. How many young a female scorpion gives birth to is related not only to the production year, but also closely related to the nutritional composition and types of feed.
Temperature and humidity are very important when the female scorpion gives birth. Their most suitable temperature is generally between 30 and 38°C. Within this temperature range, not only is the birth fast, but the survival rate of the young scorpions after birth is also high.
During the period when the female scorpion is carrying young, it generally does not eat or move, focusing entirely on extending its two pincers, raising its tail stinger, and protecting the young scorpions on its back. At this time, the female scorpion's sensory organs are especially sensitive and its reactions are quite quick. As long as there is the slightest movement in the nest, it prepares to attack and fight; if it encounters a sudden fright, it will shake off the young scorpions on its back; if there is a lack of moisture in the nest, it will sometimes even eat the young scorpions it has shaken off. Therefore, during the period when the female scorpion is carrying young, a peaceful environment is needed. Do not disturb it without reason, and absolutely avoid male scorpions crawling in to snatch and eat the young scorpions.
