In recent years, as the profitability of meat dog farming has continued to rise, meat dog farming has become increasingly popular. However, since China has not yet conducted a systematic survey and evaluation of quality dog breed resources, this has brought inconvenience to the promotion and development of the dog farming industry, so selecting excellent dog breeds in the farming process has become an important task for many dog farms. After farming and promotion, the Beijing Huafa Special Breeding Farm selected the Qinglong dog, an excellent breed. This dog tolerates coarse feed and cold, is suitable for raising in the Central Plains and the north, has good meat quality, and reaches market weight quickly, reaching 25-30 kg at 100 days, making it a top-grade breed in the meat dog family.

To ensure the excellence of the breed, the farm specially introduced healthy, high-quality Tibetan Mastiffs from the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau as sires and crossbred them with selected local female dogs. The first generation produced was recognized and designated by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences as an excellent edible dog breed, the "Qinglong dog."

Like other meat dogs, the Qinglong dog is an omnivorous animal and does not have very high nutritional requirements, so it is easy to feed and raise, but this by no means suggests that it can be fed just anything. To help it grow quickly, produce more, and die less, reach market weight early, and generate more profit, it must be fed scientifically. The principles of "mixed feed finely formulated, fully balanced, and precisely fed by category" must be implemented. The specific standards are: the protein ratios for suckling dogs, weaned dogs, young dogs, open female dogs, pregnant female dogs, idle dogs, and breeding male dogs are 22-23%, 18-20%, 15-17%, 14-15%, 15-16%, 15%, and 16-18%, while also ensuring the various nutritional needs of meat dogs and adding some vitamins, minerals, and trace elements.

At present, meat dog breed resources are scarce, quality breeds are in short supply, market demand is great, farming profits are high, and output benefits are good. To help dogs reach market weight quickly, attention should be paid to the following points: dock the tails of suckling dogs after birth; 3-4 days after birth, use sterilized scissors to dock the tails of puppies to reduce nutrient consumption and use rapid weight gain to reach market weight; castrate and fatten at the proper time, with surplus male dogs promptly castrated at 60 days; raise at high density in pens, with one pen of 10-12 sq m and 10-12 commercial dogs per pen, with male dogs separated into different pens, which consumes less energy than free-range raising, gains weight faster, and reaches market weight earlier; raise intensively in cages, with cages 100 cm long and 80 cm wide and high, one dog per day, which lowers construction costs, allows greater capacity, keeps the air fresh, provides sufficient light, makes it easy to observe and prevent disease, lowers activity energy consumption, and speeds up fattening. This helps reduce costs and increase benefits.
