New Carnation Variety Yun Zhi Die: Disease-Resistant and High Quality
"Yun Zhi Die" is a new carnation variety bred by the Flower Research Institute of the Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Trial-planted in 2005 in the main carnation-producing areas of Yunnan, it showed characteristics of wide adaptability, high yield, strong disease resistance, pure flower color, tolerance to transport, long vase life, and ease of cultivation. In 2005 it obtained plant variety registration and protection from the Ministry of Agriculture.
I. Botanical characteristics. Single-flower type. The stem's cross-section is angular, without cavities. Leaves are blue-green, long sword-shaped, 15.99 cm long and 0.92 cm wide, with a rich waxy layer on the surface and no hairs on the leaf margins. The flower bud is spherical before it splits and shows color. The flower diameter is 8.6 cm, the corolla height is 5.21 cm, and the flower has a slight fragrance. The calyx is bell-shaped; the flower is of the double type, with 68.6 petals; the petal surface is wavy, the margins are nearly entire, and the petals have 2 colors, the first main color being white and the second main color pomegranate red, with no color spots. The ovary is oval, slightly white at the lower part, with a smooth surface. There are 2 styles, and the stigma is white-based with purplish-red spots.
II. Biological characteristics. It is an extremely early-maturing variety; planted in mid-April, the growth period is 119 days; planted in late June, the growth period is 156 days. The cutting rooting rate and seedling survival rate are both high, and the propagation coefficient is high.
III. Cut flower quality. The branches are upright and uniform, stiff and relatively long; the flowers are relatively large, the flower color is pure, the two colors are harmoniously matched in appropriate proportion, the petal number is suitable, the flower shape is good, and it is fragrant; the petal margins are nearly entire, and it tolerates post-harvest handling and transport.
IV. Resistance. Moderately resistant to Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. dianthi; highly resistant to wilt and leaf spot.
V. Yield. The average cut flower yield is 215.6 stems per sq m per crop.
