Medicinal Value and Processing Methods of Snake Penis and Snake Gallbladder
I. Medicinal Use and Processing of Snake Penis
The snake penis is the reproductive organ of the male snake. A complete set of snake penis includes two gonadal testes and two hemipenes, and it contains components such as male hormones and proteins. In traditional Chinese medicine, there is the theory of "treating an organ with a corresponding organ, seeking like with like." According to measurements by relevant scientific research departments, the kidney-tonifying substances contained in snake penis are 10% higher than those in deer penis, and more than about 30% higher than those in sea dog kidney and dog kidney. Snake penis has the functions of tonifying the kidney and strengthening yang, and warming the middle and calming the organs. It can treat impotence, kidney deficiency, tinnitus, chronic orchitis, and cold womb infertility in women. If snake penis is further combined with other tonifying Chinese herbal medicines, the medicinal effect will be even better, and it can play a role in nourishing blood and cultivating essence. It has therapeutic effects on infertility caused by low semen volume or low sperm content, poor survival rate, and low motility in men, as well as infertility caused by endocrine disorders, poor ovulation, secondary amenorrhea, and low menstrual volume in women, with an effective rate as high as 92.5%. At present, "snake penis pills" and "snake penis powder" made with snake penis as a raw material have begun to be put on the Hong Kong, China and foreign markets, and are deeply welcomed by patients.
Snake penis can generally be made into the following snake penis products.
Dried snake penis: When a male snake is found during slaughter, the snake penis should be removed promptly, washed clean of blood and dirt, drained of water, and then hung in a ventilated place to dry in the sun or dried by heat.
Snake penis powder: Grind dried snake penis that is free of insect damage and mildew into an extremely fine powder, and store it in vacuum packaging according to small-package requirements.
Snake penis wine: Take fresh snake penis or high-quality dried snake penis and soak it directly in grain liquor of 50 degrees or above. It can be drunk after three months, and after it is used up, it can be soaked once more. If it is drunk after one year, there will no longer be the medicinal effect for a second soaking.
Snake penis pills: Add snake penis to auxiliary beneficial medicines, such as goji berry, deer antler velvet, prepared rehmannia, Chinese yam, and morinda root, etc. (after diagnosis by a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner, the medicines are prescribed and made into pills), refine with honey into pills, and take them according to the doctor's advice.
II. Medicinal Use and Processing of Snake Gallbladder
Snake gallbladder has been a precious medicinal material since ancient times and is widely used clinically or among the people. The reason snake gallbladder is regarded as a precious traditional Chinese medicine is that it has excellent medicinal value. It can dispel wind and remove dampness, clear heat and improve eyesight, and relieve cough and resolve phlegm. In clinical application, it has good therapeutic effects in treating rheumatoid arthritis, red eyes and blurred vision, cough with excessive phlegm, infantile convulsions, hemiplegia, red and swollen hemorrhoids, and various corneal diseases, etc. Among the people, there is also a traditional dietary therapy of eating snake gallbladder to treat stomach diseases.
The color of snake gallbladder is mostly considered best when it is emerald green. Generally, pale yellow or orange-yellow ones are called "water gallbladder" and are usually not used as medicine. There are also individual species such as the gallbladder of the black-tailed pit viper; although under normal conditions it may also be orange-yellow or pale red when caught in the wild, after a period of artificial breeding it will also turn dark green. As for the quality of snake gallbladder, generally the snake gallbladder in winter is the best, followed by late autumn and early summer. Usually, if one wants to obtain high-quality snake gallbladder, the live snake must be starved for about 7 to 10 days before taking it, because when the snake does not eat, the accumulation of bile is the most concentrated and the greatest. After removal, it should be placed in a dark, ventilated, cool place. Fresh gallbladder generally should not be stored for too long.
The specific processing methods for snake gallbladder are as follows:
Snake gallbladder wine: Generally use fresh gallbladder. After the snake gallbladder is removed during slaughter, wash it clean of blood and dirt with water, soak and wash it in a small amount of liquor for about five minutes, and place it in a previously prepared liquor bottle. The liquor should be grain liquor of 50 degrees or above. Generally put in 1 to 2 snake gallbladders. Three-snake gallbladder wine should contain three snake gallbladders of different species, and five-snake gallbladder wine should contain five snake gallbladders of different species. It can be drunk after three months.
Snake bile wine: Take 1 to 2 fresh gallbladders, cut them open, and put them into 500 milliliters of grain liquor of 50 degrees or above. Generally it is soaked and drunk immediately, suitable for snake restaurants and hotels, and fresh bile can also be squeezed directly into a cup containing liquor for direct drinking.
Vacuum-dried snake gallbladder powder: Put the obtained fresh bile into a vacuum dryer and draw a vacuum to dry it. The resulting green-yellow crystalline powder is ready. Bottle or bag it for later use.
Snake gallbladder pills: Pills made from snake bile combined with tonifying Chinese herbal medicines, such as "snake gallbladder wind-chasing pills," etc.
In addition, snake gallbladder combined with the Chinese herbal medicine Sichuan fritillary is "snake gallbladder and Sichuan fritillary liquid," and combined with dried tangerine peel powder is "snake gallbladder and dried tangerine peel powder," etc. These are all commonly used Chinese patent medicines deeply welcomed by patients.
