What medicine is used for swine mange? Phoxim can treat it
Swine mange is a chronic parasitic disease caused by Sarcoptes scabiei mites, characterized by intense itching. Pigs of all sizes can be infected, which seriously affects the growth and development of pigs and brings huge economic losses to @#@227@#@ industry.
1. Patterns of onset
After the female Sarcoptes scabiei mite burrows into the skin, it lays eggs in tunnels in the epidermis, and the larvae hatch and parasitize within the burrows in the epidermal layer. The irritation from the mite's saliva and metabolic products causes inflammatory itching and rash.
2. Symptoms and diagnosis
It begins at the extremities of the limbs, the ears, and the abdomen, then spreads to the whole body. Initially, erythema, papules, and intense itching are observed. The pigs rub against walls, followed by bleeding, scabbing, and the formation of crusts. Most cases are dry lesions, and sometimes allergic lesions occur, presenting as acute eczema.
A preliminary diagnosis can be made based on the itching symptoms and skin lesions.
3. Prevention and control measures
Take an appropriate amount of 40% phoxim emulsifiable concentrate, dilute it evenly with clean water at 1:800 to 1000 (prepare and use immediately), choose an overcast or cloudy day to spray the affected pigs all over the body, until a visibly wet and dripping appearance is achieved, and also spray the area within 1 m above the pen and the ground, so as to thoroughly kill the Sarcoptes scabiei mites and their eggs. At the same time, administer prednisone at 0.5 to 2.0 mg per kg body weight or flumethasone (dexamethasone acetate) at 0.15 to 0.25 mg per kg body weight by subcutaneous injection, which has a significant antipruritic effect and good anti-inflammatory properties. Also, reasonably add zinc to the diet to effectively prevent the occurrence of skin parasitic diseases.
