Choose according to the type of livestock or poultry and its growth and development stage. Compound feed is formulated for different types of livestock and poultry and different production purposes. Chicken feed is further divided into chick feed and adult chicken feed. Therefore, when selecting, be sure to purchase according to the instructions on the compound feed.

Do not judge the quality of feed by appearance alone. Some farmers mistakenly believe that feed with good color and a pleasant smell, which produces black droppings after feeding, is good feed. In fact, this situation is caused by the addition of yellow pigment, flavoring agents and high doses of copper to the feed. To judge the quality of feed, first check whether the feed has a product quality certificate. Second, check whether it has a feed label. The feed label is located at the seal of the packaging bag, and its standard is formulated and issued by the State Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision. Production enterprises must attach a feed product label. Feed without a label, according to relevant regulations, cannot be sold, let alone purchased. Finally, check the shelf life. The shelf life is one of the items stated on the feed label. Any compound feed that has exceeded its shelf life or does not state a shelf life should not be purchased.

Do not mix other feed when feeding compound feed. Because doing so will cause an imbalance in nutritional components and fail to achieve the expected feeding effect.

Do not add water when feeding. Compound feed comes in powder and pellet forms and is meant for dry feeding. Some farmers mix it with water into a wet feed before feeding, which will cause it to lose its original effect.

Do not add additives. Compound feed already contains various additives needed by livestock and poultry. Adding more additives will not only cause waste but may also cause poisoning.
