What kind of fish is the Achilles Tang? Let us introduce you to this marine ornamental fish
Scientific name: Acanthurus achilles
Maximum body length: 20 cm
Diet: herbivorous
Feed supply: artificial dry pellet feed, natural seaweed, marine vegetables
Territoriality: strong
Suitable for reef tanks: caution
Recommended minimum aquarium volume: over 400 liters
Difficulty of care: difficult
The Achilles Tang needs enough space to move around, and it is recommended to provide at least over 400 liters of water to keep it. The Achilles Tang is also quite territorial, but only toward fish of the same kind; toward others it appears much more gentle, so when adding other tangs, you must consider the order in which the fish are introduced.
In terms of food, tangs all need a variety of vegetable foods. Besides dry feed specially designed for herbivorous fish, seaweed or vegetables are both good choices.
Its black body with a red heart-shaped marking at the caudal peduncle is its distinguishing feature, and the caudal fin also has the same stripe. Fish of the same species fight fiercely and are not easy to keep together. Juveniles only develop this color at a body length of 6 cm-7 cm, and after reaching a body length of 8 cm they show their charm. Therefore, adults are very beautiful in color and lively in movement, and require a relatively large space and water volume. They are distributed in the Hawaiian waters.
Distributed in the coral reef waters of the Pacific Ocean, algivorous, can be fed algae, plant-based feed and artificial feed, suitable for an invertebrate aquarium with a water temperature of 26 degrees, seawater specific gravity of 1.022, and a water volume of over 300 liters, with a maximum body length of up to 28 cm
