How to treat nutritional anemia in piglets? Detailed explanation of causes and treatment methods

Piglets
Nutritional anemia in piglets is a nutritional and metabolic disease caused by the deficiency or insufficiency of certain nutrients. It mostly occurs in one-month-old piglets and has a great impact on the growth and development of piglets; in severe cases, it can cause death. Based on the incidence found during technical extension, the treatment measures for nutritional anemia in piglets are described, providing technical support for farmers.
I. Supplementing raw materials for hemoglobin
1. Ferrous sulfate 2.5 g, copper sulfate 1 g, cobalt chloride 2.5 g, boiling water 1 L. After mixing, add a few drops of hydrochloric acid to dissolve, filter, and apply the filtrate to the sow's teats or directly apply it inside the piglet's mouth. It can also be administered orally every day at a dosage of 0.25 milliliters per kilogram of body weight for 7-14 consecutive days.
2. Use a mixed aqueous solution of 0.1% ferrous sulfate and 0.1% copper sulfate for piglets to drink.
3. Inject 2-4 milliliters of ferrous gluconate solution (made by mixing ferrous hydroxide and glucose, containing 50 milligrams of ferrous hydroxide per milliliter) intramuscularly once a day for 7 consecutive days.
II. Other therapies
1. Liver extract injection (containing folic acid and vitamin B12) 0.5-1.0 milliliters, 5% glucose solution 1-3.0 milliliters, mix and inject intramuscularly once a day for 7-10 consecutive days; or vitamin B12 injection 0.1-0.3 milligrams, intramuscular injection, once a day for 7-10 consecutive days; liver blocks, liver powder, and healthy pig stomach preparations can also be fed, 1-3 grams each time, 2-3 times a day.
2. Growth stimulants. Use anticoagulated blood from healthy horses, cattle, or sheep for subcutaneous or intramuscular injection. After injection, gently massage the injection site to promote blood absorption and dispersal. It has a good effect on nutritional anemia and secondary malnutrition. The dosage per kilogram is 2-3 milliliters for suckling piglets and 1-2 milliliters for pigs over two months old, once every 3-5 days, with 2-3 times as one course of treatment; or 2 milliliters each time, once every other day, with 4-6 times as one course of treatment. If necessary, another course of treatment can be given after 5-6 days.
3. Chinese herbal medicine therapy: use 30 grams of Polygonum multiflorum, add an appropriate amount of brown sugar, grind into powder, divide into 4 doses, mix into the feed and feed once a day; Atractylodes lancea, tangerine peel, pine needles, Jianqu, malt, and Gentiana scabra 60 grams each, Phellodendron amurense 30 grams, grind into powder, take 5-10 grams each time, three times a day.
During treatment, in order to promote absorption and prevent iron poisoning, an appropriate amount of vitamin E can be given; when using iron supplements and vitamin B12 for treatment, vitamin C and a small amount of dilute hydrochloric acid can be given at the same time, which can reduce ferric iron to ferrous iron and facilitate absorption. Piglets with nutritional anemia are prone to pneumonia, so prevention is necessary.
