How to do a good job of disease prevention in pigeons during different production periods
(1) Squabs during the brooding period
Pay attention to preventing trichomoniasis. Trichomoniasis is mainly transmitted directly to squabs by parent pigeons carrying the parasite, so check whether the parent pigeons are carrying it, and if so, treat them promptly. Pay attention to preventing pigeon pox, which is generally prevalent from March to June, so do a good job of vaccination and mosquito control. Once it occurs, timely surgical treatment should be given. A small amount of low-toxicity mosquito-killing water can also be sprayed on the squabs to prevent mosquito bites, but be sure not to use too much. In addition, pay attention to preventing diseases such as coccidiosis, mycoplasmosis and salmonellosis.
(2) Young pigeons kept for breeding
Young pigeons newly moved into the loft have just left their parent pigeons and find it hard to adapt to the change in environment for a while. This is a relatively major stress and can easily trigger disease, so some antibiotics can be used at this time for prevention. At the same time, an appropriate amount of vitamins and mineral supplements can be added to improve the pigeons' disease resistance. In addition, do not suddenly change the feed formula, as this will affect appetite.
(3) Young pigeons during the molting period
At around 50 days of age, @#@247@#@ the first primary wing feather begins to fall out, and then 1 feather is replaced every 13 to 15 days, continuing until the start of laying. Molting is a kind of stress produced by the pigeon itself, consuming not only a large amount of energy but also requiring a large amount of nutrients for new feather growth. Therefore, they are most prone to illness during the replacement of the 1st and 2nd feathers. At this time, attention should be paid to supplementing nutrition and increasing vitamins and trace mineral elements to improve the pigeons' disease resistance and reduce deaths.
(4) Breeding pigeons during the pairing period
Once breeding pigeons are successfully paired, they are immediately put into production. Before pairing, pay attention to increasing the content of protein feed, and appropriately add some hempseed, which has the effect of increasing the fertilization rate. Before the start of laying, a medicinal bath should be given to kill external parasites,
and some antibiotics and deworming drugs should be given so that the breeding pigeons can be put into production in healthy condition.
