Six precautions for catching adult fish during high-temperature periods
Production practice has proven that catching adult fish during the hot season should be done at night or in the early morning (before dawn), when the temperature is relatively lower, which helps keep the fish fresh. When catching, the following points should be noted:
1. If using a seine net to catch, preparation work should be done during the day, clearing away debris on the water surface of the fish pond that hinders seining.
2. If using a soft vinylon fishing net, the height of the net should match the water depth of the fish pond as closely as possible. If using a nylon net to catch adult fish in a relatively large fish pond, the mesh size should be about 8 cm; this way most of the fish caught will be over 500 grams.
3. If practicing rotational catching and stocking, only 10%-15% of the total fish quantity should be caught each time; the fish in the pond must not all be caught in one net. Generally, seining is done once about every 15 days, and the interval between two catches must not be too short, so as not to affect the normal growth of the fish. It should be noted that from June to October each year is the peak growing season for fish; at this time the fish scales are relatively loose, so extra care is needed when catching to avoid injuring the fish bodies and causing bacterial infection, and new water should be added after catching.
4. Do not feed feed the day before catching. If fish are gasping at the surface, do not rush to seine; immediately add new water to increase the dissolved oxygen in the water, and wait until the fish are no longer gasping at the surface before seining. Otherwise, it easily causes a pond turnover.
5. After the fish are netted, first spread them out on grass covered with dew to air them, and after the fish bodies have cooled, put them into fish baskets or plastic bags. If they are put into bags (baskets) immediately after netting, it is not conducive to keeping the fish fresh.
6. For fertile ponds without new water introduced, before seining, quicklime mixed with water can be sprinkled over the whole pond; 8 kg-10 kg per mu of water surface. Or after seining, use bleaching powder mixed with water (1 gram of bleaching powder per cubic meter of water) to sprinkle and disinfect.
