For high yield and good profits from freshwater shrimp and river crabs, grasping the "six key points" is very important

Because freshwater shrimp and river crabs offer relatively good profits, many people have started farming them, but to achieve high yield and good profits from freshwater shrimp and river crabs, you need to grasp six key points well:

Freshwater shrimp

    1. Water body point:The water body is the growing environment for freshwater shrimp and river crabs. You should choose a water body with good water quality and convenient drainage and irrigation, with a water level of 1-1.5 m. Before stocking, the pond must be thoroughly cleaned to prevent wild and miscellaneous fish from entering, so as to increase the survival rate. For fertilizing the water to raise freshwater shrimp, before stocking shrimp fry or egg-bearing shrimp, enough organic fertilizer should be applied to promote the reproduction of plankton, the palatable food for shrimp; river crabs prefer clear, lean water quality.

    2. Seedling point:The key to achieving high yield is to stock good and sufficient seedlings. For freshwater shrimp, 60,000-80,000 shrimp fry of about 1.5 cm or 1 kg of egg-bearing shrimp must be stocked per mu; for river crabs, 500-800 crabs per mu with a size of no more than 200 crabs per kg, and the best stock is crab seed from the Yangtze River system.

    3. Feeding point:Freshwater shrimp and river crabs are both omnivorous with a tendency toward animal food. Bait should be fed reasonably and scientifically, that is, with fixed quality, fixed quantity, fixed time and fixed location. Ensure the quality of the bait; moldy and spoiled bait must not be used. River crabs like to eat fresh live animal bait such as snails; generally about 250 kg of live snails are put in per mu.

    4. Aquatic plant point:Aquatic plants can create a good ecological environment, regulate water quality, provide shade and cooling, and provide environments for freshwater shrimp and river crabs to rest, molt and grow. The aquatic plants planted should mainly be submerged plants such as Vallisneria (flat-stem grass) and Hydrilla verticillata. The aquatic plant coverage in shrimp ponds should reach more than 30%, and in crab ponds about 60%.

    5. Disease prevention point:For freshwater shrimp and river crabs, adopt the measures of "prevent disease before it occurs, treat it early when it occurs." The water body should be disinfected frequently, and medicated bait should be given orally on a regular basis. Monitor diseases in time; when disease occurs, use appropriate drugs for treatment in time, isolate the central disease outbreak areas of freshwater shrimp and river crabs, and cut off the spread of the disease.

    6. Marketing point:You must not only know how to farm but also how to sell, so that freshwater shrimp and river crabs can bring good economic benefits. During the farming process, you should keep abreast of market conditions at all times and grasp market trends. For freshwater shrimp, persist in harvesting year-round, catching the large and leaving the small, to improve size and yield; river crabs should be marketed around the Spring Festival when prices are relatively high.
