I. Choose storage-tolerant varieties. China is the country of origin for lilies, with many cultivated types and varieties. The main ones include Longya lily, Chuan lily, and tiger lily (Lilium lancifolium) and other variants. Among them, the Chuan lily, which is white, flat-spherical, tightly clustered, large, and sweet-tasting, has good quality and stores well. Lilies are generally harvested in early November, mostly by digging out the bulbs with a spade, promptly removing the stems and soil, and cutting off the fibrous roots. Newly dug bulbs must not be exposed to wind and sun in the field, to prevent the outer scales from discoloring and losing water. II. Pre-cool and select the bulbs. Newly dug bulbs must not be exposed to wind and sun in the field, to prevent the outer scales from discoloring and losing water.

II. Pre-cool and select the bulbs. After harvest, lilies should be promptly transported to a shady place and evenly spread out on the ground to air, to dissipate the field heat and prevent the product from heating up. The airing time must not be too long, to prevent the scales from discoloring.

For storage, choose lily bulbs that are white in color, plump and large, round and neat in shape, tightly clustered, with no loose scales or scorched scales. Handle them gently during operation to avoid damage.

III. Storage methods

1. Yellow sand layering: First spread a thin layer of yellow sand or moist soil on the floor of the room (or warehouse), then layer the selected lily bulbs with a layer of yellow sand, piling them up layer by layer to a height of about 1 m, then cover the top and surrounding sides with another 20-30 cm of yellow sand, so the lilies are not exposed to the air. Buried in yellow sand, the lilies undergo a spontaneous modified atmosphere effect, which inhibits respiration to a certain extent, while also maintaining a certain humidity and helping to regulate dryness and moisture, and can also prevent infection by pathogenic bacteria. During storage, prevent the pile from heating up and manage to keep the temperature relatively low. With this method, they can be stored until the following spring.

2. Cold storage: The selected and pre-cooled lilies can be boxed or sealed in plastic film bags and then boxed, and sent to a cold storage for stacking or storing on shelves. The storage temperature can be controlled at 0°C, with a relative humidity of 65-75%. They can often be stored until the following spring before being taken out of storage.
