What should you pay attention to when choosing a puppy?
1. Breed of dog: First of all, you are advised to choose a purebred dog.
2. Learn about the parents: When choosing a puppy, it is best to understand the strengths and weaknesses of both the sire's and dam's breeds; puppies bought at a market are often not as good as those bought from a dog breeder's home.
3. Observe carefully: After making the right choice regarding breed and appearance, pay attention to the puppy's health. There are roughly the following points to note.
Appearance: The puppy's coat should be glossy, its weight moderate, and it should be full of energy.
Ears: The ears should be clean, with no unusual odor
Eyes: The eyes should be bright, with no eye discharge or tears
Nose: The nose should be black and wet, and cool to the touch
Teeth: The gums and lips should be pink, and the breath should have no bad odor
Appetite: When choosing, feed the puppy a little food and pick one with a hearty appetite that is not fussy about food.
Choosing a dog out of town: If you are choosing a puppy away from home, remember to prepare some water (local water) for the puppy to drink during the journey back, to avoid gastrointestinal problems. 4. Vaccinations: Find out whether the puppy has been vaccinated (such as vaccinations against rabies and canine distemper). If the seller has not had it vaccinated, have it vaccinated promptly after you bring it home.
