Jiaying Koi and Brocade Crucian Carp: Introduction to High-Quality Fish Species

Jiaying Koi and Brocade Crucian Carp are the flagship products of the Meizhou Fisheries Research Institute. As early as the 1980s, the institute's researchers carefully bred these two new varieties through crossbreeding methods.

Jiaying Koi is divided into eight major strains: long-finned, red-and-white, golden-yellow, light-yellow, black, white-jade, scattered-scale, and purple, with nearly a hundred color varieties. They are colorful, slender and graceful, crystal-clear and gorgeous, with charming elegance. Their long and soft fin rays are their greatest feature, floating lightly and captivatingly. Whether bold and martial, natural and unrestrained, or delicate and shy and endearing, white as jade, black as ink, bright red, golden yellow, in a thousand postures and ten thousand forms, like a painting in water, a poem in a painting, like flowing rhythm, like a song's andante, viewing them brings contentment, fatigue vanishes, and one feels relaxed and at ease. They symbolize happiness and peace, are messengers of friendship and peace, and are sold far to Wuhan, Guangxi, Hunan and other places for their distinctive standing among internationally popular koi strains. For breeding them, the Meizhou Fisheries Research Institute won first, second, and third prizes for Meizhou Science and Technology Progress once each, and a second prize for Major Scientific and Technological Achievements of Guangdong Province in 1987. Newspapers, television stations, radio stations and other media at home and abroad reported and reprinted the news one after another, and 500 fish were selected and sent to the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing for viewing by Chinese and foreign distinguished guests.

The Brocade Crucian Carp was bred by crossing red crucian carp or golden crucian carp with improved crucian carp varieties. It has the characteristics of a graceful body shape, bright colors, sparkling scales, and dazzling brilliance. New varieties such as transparent scales and double tails were creatively bred. Its body size is moderate, retaining the characteristic of being easy to raise, while adding ornamental features such as colorful body colors and long fins.

Jiaying Koi and Brocade Crucian Carp are both suitable for breeding and viewing in parks, hotels, institutions, and home courtyards. They can be placed in ponds, and can also be raised in vats, aquariums, etc. They are omnivorous, and their stress resistance and disease resistance are stronger than those of ordinary ornamental fish. They are excellent varieties for beautifying the living environment. After more than ten years of scientific research, development and production growth, the Meizhou Fisheries Research Institute now has more than 2,000 parent fish of Jiaying Koi and more than 3,000 parent fish of Brocade Crucian Carp, and its annual production of Jiaying Koi and Brocade Crucian Carp seedlings both exceeds 1 million fish.
