Effective prevention and treatment methods for reproductive stress in breeding sows
1. Symptoms:
(1) Abnormal bone metabolism, weak limbs and hooves, abnormal limb morphology and gait. Soft feet, hoof cracks, hemorrhage under the hoof shell, and in severe cases postpartum paralysis.
(2) Sows show reproductive disorders, especially first-litter sows, with delayed estrus, anestrus or failure to come into estrus. More piglets born in the first litter, fewer in the second; or more in one litter and fewer in the next. Sows have weak disease resistance, reduced immune function, incomplete uterine involution, increased incidence of endometritis and mastitis, and are prone to various infections, with a higher culling rate.
(3) Sow fertility and piglet survival rate decline. The number of piglets born to sows decreases, weak piglets and weak fetuses increase, and fetal size is uneven; piglets have low birth weight, weak disease resistance, and a high incidence of yellow and white scour; lactating sows have insufficient milk production after farrowing; piglets grow slowly and have low weaning weight.
3. Prevention and treatment:
(1) For replacement gilts from 6 months of age to the 7th day after mating, the diet should be adjusted to promote sexual maturity of the sow, adding 1% "Shengming No. 1". The body weight of 6-month-old sows should be 80-90 kg; if the weight does not meet the standard, the feeding amount should be moderately increased.
(2) From 70-114 days after conception in sows, 70-80% of the fetal birth weight and immune organs are formed during this period. The nutrients needed for full fetal development should be ensured, adding 1-1.5% "Shengming No. 1" to the sow's diet, and increasing the feeding amount by 30-50%.
(3) Pay attention to feeding management during lactation, ensure the nutrients needed for sow lactation and uterine repair, and add 2% "Shengming No. 1" to the sow's diet. If a sow gives birth to more than 10 piglets, it should be fed ad libitum.
(4) For multiparous sows from weaning to the 7th day after mating, keep the feed quality during lactation unchanged, but the feeding amount should be moderately reduced according to the sow's body condition.
