A detailed guide to Dracaena reflexa cultivation techniques: understanding planting and care methods in one article
Dracaena reflexa, golden Dracaena reflexa, and yellow-edged Dracaena reflexa all belong to the D. retlera lineage. The plant can reach 9 m in height, and after growing tall the stems tend to bend and lean. The leaves are sword-shaped and lanceolate, sessile, leathery and glossy. Dracaena reflexa has entirely green leaves. Golden Dracaena reflexa has yellow longitudinal stripes in the leaves. Yellow-edged Dracaena reflexa has golden-yellow leaf margins. Such plants have strong shade tolerance, are suitable for pot cultivation, and are premium indoor plants. Cut stems and leaves can also root when grown in water, making them premium material for flower arranging.
Propagation: seed sowing or cuttings can be used; for mass propagation, seed sowing can be used, and spring to summer is the suitable sowing period, with the suitable temperature for germination and rooting being 20~25°C. For cuttings, spring and autumn are the suitable periods; cut branches into sections of just over 10 cm each, and if they carry leaves, most of the leaves should be cut off, then insert the cuttings into a moist sand bed or soil, keep humidity, and provide 50%~60% sunlight; roots can form after about 30-40 days.
Key cultivation points: leaf mold or sandy loam rich in organic matter is best for cultivation; the growing site can be full sun or partial sun, but growth is usually most ideal in partial shade with about 50%~70% sunlight. Drainage must be good. For fertilization, organic fertilizer or nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium can be used, applied in small amounts once a month; increasing the proportion of nitrogen fertilizer can promote more beautiful leaves. For pot cultivation, plant 1 plant in a 5~7 cun pot, and after the plant grows larger, gradually switch to a larger pot. Dracaena reflexa is not strict about water needs, being drought-tolerant and moisture-tolerant; when air humidity is high, growth is more vigorous. It likes high temperature and high humidity, with a suitable growing temperature of 20~28°C. Dry and cold air in winter easily causes leaf tips to dry up, so the pot should be moved to a warm, wind-sheltered place for overwintering. When a cold wave strikes and the temperature is below 10°C, prevent leaves from being damaged by cold injury.
