How to prevent and control Penicillium rot of lily bulbs?
This disease occurs during the storage and transportation of lily bulbs.
Symptoms: In the early stage of the disease, dark brown lesions appear on the affected scales, and the lesions are sunken. Afterwards, the disease gradually spreads inward, causing the bulbs to slowly dry-rot, and the diseased bulbs take several weeks to rot away. In the late stage of the disease, a blue moldy substance is produced on the diseased parts, which consists of the conidiophores and conidia of the pathogen.
Pathogen: The pathogens are Penicillium cyclopium Westl. and Penicillium corymbiferum Westl., belonging to the Deuteromycotina, Hyphomycetes, Moniliales, genus Penicillium fungi. In addition to harming some plants, the pathogen can also cause mold and rot in various organic materials.
Control: Refer to lily bulb soft rot. In addition, adding 156 g of calcium hypochlorite powder to every 22.7 kg of packaging soil during storage and transportation can control the occurrence of the disease; dissolving benomyl in warm water and soaking the bulbs also has an inhibitory effect on the disease.
