Vomiting in dogs is not an independent disease name, but a symptom of many canine diseases. Canine diseases that commonly have vomiting symptoms include canine distemper, canine parvovirus enteritis and coronavirus enteritis, meningoencephalitis, pancreatitis, infectious hepatitis and other infectious diseases. Common canine gastroenteritis, poisoning by toxic substances, vomiting from overeating, irritation by foreign bodies, esophagitis, gastric ulcers, as well as others such as too-rapid intravenous infusion and transport reactions can all cause vomiting. 1 Symptom analysis 1.1 Vomiting caused by canine distemper is also accompanied by biphasic fever, coughing, nasal spattering, and purulent

1 Symptom analysis

1.1 Vomiting caused by canine distemper is also accompanied by biphasic fever, coughing, nasal spattering, and purulent nasal discharge, with nervous symptoms such as convulsions appearing in the terminal stage.

1.2 Canine parvovirus enteritis and coronavirus enteritis are more commonly seen in puppies, with vomiting and diarrhea being particularly obvious, and they spread rapidly. In the terminal stage there is mostly bloody stool, and the mortality rate is very high due to severe dehydration.

1.3 Vomiting caused by meningoencephalitis is accompanied by nervous symptoms such as mental stupor or excitement.

1.4 Vomiting caused by acute pancreatitis is accompanied by abdominal pain and distension, diarrhea, and varying degrees of lethargy. Some affected dogs adopt a "praying posture" with the elbows and sternum resting on the ground and the hindquarters elevated.

1.5 Canine infectious hepatitis, in addition to vomiting symptoms, also presents with elevated body temperature and keratitis symptoms.

1.6 Although common gastroenteritis has obvious vomiting and diarrhea symptoms, it is not contagious, the symptoms are relatively mild, it is easy to cure, and dietary problems can often be identified.

1.7 Vomiting caused by poisoning by toxic substances is also accompanied by poisoning symptoms such as foaming at the mouth, mental stupor, and rapid heartbeat.

1.8 Vomiting from overeating has a history of overeating, and the vomited material has a foul, offensive odor; the condition improves after vomiting.

1.9 Vomiting caused by foreign body irritation mostly has a history of eating foreign objects, and the foreign object can still be seen in the vomited material.

1.10 Vomiting caused by esophagitis presents with tension and restlessness when swallowing, immediately followed by vomiting.

1.11 Vomiting caused by gastric ulcers mostly follows a chronic course, with blood in the vomited material, and the dog becomes increasingly emaciated.

2 Treatment

2.1 Vomiting caused by canine distemper is mainly treated by treating the canine distemper; the vomiting will disappear once the canine distemper is cured. Refined canine seven-combined hyperimmune serum or canine five-combined immunoglobulin, World No. 1, Super Needle Ba, Xuduqing, etc. can be used in combination for several days, along with intramuscular injection of canine and feline anti-vomiting agent, or antiemetics such as Weifukang or Zhituling or Quanyankang.

2.2 Canine parvovirus enteritis and coronavirus enteritis are mainly treated by antiviral therapy and treating the gastroenteritis. Shuanghuanglian, ofloxacin, Quanyankang, etc. are added to the infusion fluid, while Enjinuo, Xieliwang, Zhilishen, Ouliting, etc. are injected intramuscularly, and gentamicin or streptomycin is given orally; for valuable dogs, serum therapy can also be used at the same time.

2.3 Vomiting caused by meningoencephalitis is mainly treated by treating the meningoencephalitis. Quanyankang, World No. 1, Super Needle Ba can be injected intravenously, or sulfadiazine plus urotropine can be injected intravenously. During coma, dehydrating agents such as mannitol and sorbitol can be injected intravenously to reduce coma caused by cerebral edema.

2.4 Vomiting caused by pancreatitis can be treated by intramuscular injection of Golden No. 1 and Omnipotent No. 5, and intravenous drip of penicillin or amikacin.

2.5 For infectious hepatitis, antiviral drugs such as refined seven-combined hyperimmune serum or five-combined immunoglobulin, Banlangen, canine and feline duzuoling, Wenjianchou, etc. can be injected intramuscularly.

2.6 The treatment method for common canine gastroenteritis is the same as for parvovirus gastroenteritis, but serum is not used.

2.7 For poisoning by toxic substances, specific antidotes or general detoxification methods should be used according to the nature of the toxic substance, or gastric lavage and enema should be performed.

2.8 For vomiting from overeating, digestive aids such as malt, hawthorn, medicated leaven, chicken gizzard lining, ginger, and Dahuang Soda Tablets can be used, or Weifukang or Weifu'an can be injected intramuscularly.

2.9 Vomiting caused by foreign body irritation mostly improves after the foreign body is vomited out. Aimao'er, Weifu'an, Weifukang, Zhituling, canine and feline anti-vomiting agent, Bonnie No. 1, etc. can be injected intramuscularly.

2.10 Vomiting caused by esophagitis is mainly treated with anti-inflammatory therapy. No. 5 and Golden No. 1 can be injected intramuscularly for 3 consecutive days, and if necessary, metronidazole plus vitamin B6 can be given by intravenous drip.

2.11 Vomiting caused by gastric ulcers can be treated by intravenous injection of cimetidine, with calcium gluconate, vitamin B6, hemostatic min and hemostatic aromatic acid added to the infusion fluid, and cuttlefish bone, white hyacinth bletilla, and Thunberg fritillary bulb ground into powder, mixed with boiled water, cooled and taken warm.
