How to prevent and treat pig lice disease? Methods every pig farmer must see
Pig lice disease, also known as pig blood lice disease, is an external parasitic disease caused by the pig liver louse parasitizing the surface of the pig's body. Although it cannot cause painful death, it still has a considerable impact on the growth and development of live pigs, especially a serious impact on piglets.
The development cycle of pig lice is short and spread is rapid. After male and female lice mate, the female louse, after sucking enough blood, lays eggs, producing 3---4 eggs per day, which are attached to the hair and skin with secreted mucus; young lice hatch in 1215 days, and become adult lice in 1014 days, with a development cycle of 2332 days.
Because poor sanitation in pig houses, narrow sites, dense crowding and poor management make infection with this disease most likely. Through nursing, lice on sows can infect all piglets, and an outbreak in fattening pigs in the same pen can quickly spread to the whole herd. Clinically, diseased pigs often rub and scratch, bleed on the body surface, are restless, have reduced appetite, are malnourished, lose weight and grow slowly; especially the liver growth and development of piglets stagnates, affecting production efficiency. Therefore, preventing and treating pig lice disease is also very important.
Prevention and treatment of diseased pigs:
1. Spray the pig's body or use a medicated bath with 0.1% trichlorfon aqueous solution, 300PPM lindane solution, etc.
2. Frequently check the body surface of pigs. Especially for pigs purchased from other places, check carefully. Once found, immediately catch them or use drugs to kill them.
3. Do a good job of sanitation in pig houses, disinfect regularly, and the stocking density should not be too large.
