Well-drained, deep sandy loam soil should be chosen. For cultivation in hilly areas, gentle slopes with a gradient below 5 degrees should be selected. Continuous cropping is taboo. Continuous cropping of lilies leads to severe pests and diseases and reduced yield. After selecting the site, soil chemical treatment should be carried out in conjunction with soil plowing to reduce pests and diseases. Use 2.5-5 kg of Jialiu powder or 2-2.5 kg of carbofuran per mu to kill underground pests. Use 1 kg of 50% carbendazim wettable powder diluted in 500 kg of water per mu to spray the soil for sterilization. Deep plow and prepare the land, adapt to local conditions, and apply sufficient base fertilizer. Lilies are relatively fertilizer-tolerant and require more fertilizer; all lily-producing areas attach great importance to the application of base fertilizer. Generally, use 1500-2500 kg of compost or barnyard manure, 50-75 kg of fermented cake fertilizer, 15 kg of urea, 20-30 kg of calcium magnesium phosphate fertilizer, and 7.5-10 kg of potassium sulfate per mu.

Land preparation should be fine and should depend on the terrain and climate. In sloping land, hilly land, and places with a low groundwater table and smooth drainage, flat beds can be prepared. The bed width is 1-1.2 m, and between two beds a drainage ditch 20-25 cm wide and 10-15 cm deep should be opened; in places with a high groundwater table and more rainfall, raised beds should be prepared for cultivation. The bed surface width is about 1 m, the ditch width is 30-40 cm, and the depth is 15-20 cm to facilitate drainage. In the north, ridge cultivation is also used, with the ridge base about 60 cm wide, the top about 30 cm wide, and the height about 25-30 cm, and the ditch bottom about 30 cm wide. Irrigation and drainage are both relatively convenient.
