Symptoms: Sick rabbits have reduced appetite, gradually lose weight, constantly shake their heads, scratch their ears with their feet, and are restless and agitated. Inside the external ear canal there is dry yellow crust, which fills the entire ear. A few rabbits show head tilt, and finally develop convulsions and die.

Diagnosis: Based on the symptoms, a diagnosis of rabbit ear mange can be confirmed.

Prevention and treatment measures:

1. Treatment:

① Isolate and treat sick rabbits promptly when found, and strictly disinfect cages and equipment by spraying with 1-2% trichlorfon solution.

② Use Chongkexing liniment to apply inside the ear canal, 2 times a day for 3 consecutive days, with obvious results. According to the developmental pattern of mites, treat once more after one week, and the rabbit recovers.

2. Prevention:

① Maintain good hygiene in the rabbit house, always keep it clean, dry, and well ventilated, and do not overcrowd the animals.

② Observe every rabbit frequently, and immediately isolate and treat any sick rabbit found. At the same time, thoroughly disinfect the rabbit house and cages, and choose acaricides.

③ The feed should be complete, with special attention to vitamin deficiencies, to improve the rabbits' resistance.

④ Regularly carry out drug prevention for the rabbit flock, that is, every six months dip the feet and apply ear drops with 1-2% trichlorfon solution for healthy rabbits. Newly purchased rabbits should also undergo preventive cleaning of the feet, claws, and ears.

⑤ When introducing breeding rabbits, strict quarantine must be carried out, and they should be observed in isolation for a period of time before being mixed into the group after confirming they are disease-free.

Thanks to effective measures, the spread of mange was brought under control. This was a disease that should not have occurred. Due to the negligence of the keepers, contaminated clothing became an indirect means of transmission, causing the outbreak of this disease. Here I would like to remind all breeding friends to learn from this lesson.
