How to prevent and treat raccoon dog Salmonella infection? Detailed explanation of marten disease prevention and treatment techniques
This disease is an infectious disease of raccoon dogs caused by Salmonella bacteria.
1. Pathogen
The pathogen of this disease is Salmonella, mainly Salmonella enteritidis.
2. Epidemiological characteristics
This disease has obvious seasonality, generally occurring mostly from June to August, showing endemic prevalence, and mainly affecting young raccoon dogs aged 1 to 2 months.
3. Clinical symptoms
The incubation period is 3 to 20 days.
(1) Acute type: Sick raccoon dogs refuse food, body temperature rises, most sick martens lie in the small chamber, and when walking the back arches, both eyes tear, they move slowly along the cage, sometimes vomiting occurs, diarrhea often occurs, and they die in a coma after 5 to 10 hours; some also die within 2 to 3 days.
(2) Subacute type: Mainly gastrointestinal dysfunction, prolonged elevated body temperature, mental depression, shallow and frequent breathing, loss of appetite, the sick raccoon dog's fur is messy and lusterless, eyeballs are sunken and dull, sometimes purulent conjunctivitis appears, the sick raccoon dog has diarrhea, in some cases mixed with blood, limbs are weak and powerless, later incomplete paralysis of the hind limbs appears, and death occurs after 7 to 14 days under extreme exhaustion.
(3) Chronic type: The sick raccoon dog has reduced appetite, gastrointestinal dysfunction, diarrhea, feces often mixed with blood traces, gradually weakens, anemia, purulent conjunctivitis appears, eyes sunken, fur messy and lusterless, likes to lie down, walking gait is unsteady, and after 3 to 4 weeks dies from exhaustion.
During the suckling period, young raccoon dogs appear weak, inactive, and weak in suckling. The young raccoon dogs do not huddle together in the nest, emit weak groans or cries, often yawn, and the young raccoon dogs grow and develop poorly; the course of disease is 2 to 3 days and most die.
4. Anatomical and pathological changes
The mucosa is yellow-stained, the liver is enlarged and dark red; tinged with yellow, the spleen is highly enlarged, and the hilar and mesenteric lymph nodes are enlarged.
5. Clinical diagnosis
Based on symptoms, necropsy, and combined with epidemiological characteristics, a preliminary diagnosis can be made; confirmation requires bacteriological examination.
6. Prevention and treatment
(1) Prevention: Strengthen feeding management, do a good job in sanitation, and strictly prevent feeding feed contaminated by Salmonella. Feed suspected of being contaminated by Salmonella should be cooked before feeding. Specific prevention is vaccination with polyvalent formalin vaccine, subcutaneously inoculated 2 times at 30 to 35 days of age with an interval of 5 days, dose 1 to 2 milliliters, and can provide immunity for 7 to 8 months. After vaccination, female raccoon dogs pass immune antibodies to their young through milk.
(2) Treatment: Mix neomycin and levomycin into the feed and feed it, continuously for 7 to 10 days. Each adult raccoon dog 20 to 30 milligrams per day, and young and juvenile raccoon dogs 5 to 10 milligrams each.
