Prevention and Treatment Methods for Toxic Water Syndrome in Fish Ponds
Dissolved Oxygen Exceeding Standards "Toxic Water Syndrome"
1. Harm and symptoms. When too much unfermented fertilizer is applied to a water body, the raw fertilizer decomposes at the bottom of the pond into very fine small bubbles of methane and hydrogen sulfide, which fry mistake for food and swallow. The main symptoms are: many small bubbles adhere to the fish gills, causing the fish body to float up or swim off balance. There are white bubbles in the fish intestines, or more bubbles attach to the fish body surface, fin rays and gill filaments, and the fish body floats on the water surface and cannot sink down; in severe cases it can cause fish to die in batches.
2. Prevention and rescue. When gas bubble disease occurs in a fish pond, first, clean water should be injected quickly while part of the pond water is drained off, and lightly affected diseased fish can discharge the bubbles in clean water; second, use 400 to 600 grams of salt per mu and evenly splash it on the water surface where diseased fish with gas bubble disease are floating, and a good treatment effect can be obtained within several hours; third, quickly transfer the fish to a new water environment.
Metal Exceeding Standards "Toxic Water Syndrome"
1. Harm and symptoms. This disease mostly occurs in fry and fingerlings in newly dug fish ponds. Because the pond water is polluted by substances such as heavy metal salts, or lacks some nutrient (such as calcium and vitamin C, etc.), the nerves and muscles of the fish are stimulated and deformities occur, and the diseased fish body bends. The operculum is sunken, or deformities appear in the upper and lower jaws of the mouth and the fin rays (also called curved body disease). Diseased fish grow slowly and become thin, and in severe cases death is caused.
2. Prevention and treatment methods. Because adult fish generally do not suffer from this disease, for newly dug fish ponds it is best to first raise adult fish for 1 to 2 years, and afterward stock @#@233@#@ fry or fingerlings; fish ponds with the disease should frequently change water to improve water quality, and at the same time feed nutrient-rich feed to quickly strengthen the constitution of the diseased fish.
Water Body Hypoxia "Toxic Water Syndrome"
1. Harm and symptoms. Lack of oxygen in water easily causes pond turnover (also called pond flipping). If the oxygen in the water drops to the point where it cannot meet the minimum physiological demand of fish, it can suffocate the fish and cause death. If rescue is not carried out in time, it will cause fish to die in large numbers.
2. Prevention and treatment methods. Properly control stocking density, and appropriately reduce feeding and fertilizing during muggy weather. When clearing the pond in winter, dig out part of the sludge at the bottom of the pond to prevent excessive sludge at the bottom from affecting water quality. High-yield fish ponds should be equipped with aerators and carry out aeration at fixed times. Feeding should achieve fixed quality, fixed quantity, fixed time and fixed location, and leftover feed in the feeding area should be removed in time. When diseased fish are found "gasping at the surface," new water should be injected immediately, and the inlet should be covered with reed mats or wooden boards so that the water does not directly rush into the pond bottom and stir up the sludge. When necessary, the pond fish can also be transferred to another pond.
