Prevention and Treatment Methods and Technical Key Points for Pig Abscesses

Livestock Farming 0 views
Pigs commonly have abscesses under the jaw, on the scrotum, groin, behind the ears, on the udder, at the umbilicus, and on the limbs. 1. Cause: caused by infection after injury to the skin or mucous membrane. In addition, it can also be caused by leakage of intravenously injected hypertonic saline, calcium chloride, chloral hydrate, neoarsphenamine, etc. outside the blood vessel, or by inadequate disinfection when injecting preventive vaccines, or by certain infectious diseases, etc. 2. Symptoms: in the early stage, there is local diffuse redness and swelling, which then protrudes above the skin surface. After a few days, a localized spherical mass forms, and the center gradually softens and fluctuates. Once it ruptures, a large amount of pus flows out. 3.

3. Prevention and treatment: various wounds should be strictly disinfected promptly to prevent suppuration and trauma. The following drugs can be used for treatment:

① Fresh rehmannia root and trichosanthes root 20 grams each, honeysuckle, dyers woad leaf, climbing groundsel, and wild chrysanthemum 50 grams each, dandelion 40 grams; decoct in water and administer orally.

② After a body surface abscess matures, it can be incised with a small knife to clear out the pus, then use appropriate amounts each of Corydalis tomentella, five-fingered dragon, eucalyptus leaves, and climbing groundsel; decoct in water and irrigate the affected area.

③ Appropriate amounts each of Japanese knotweed, hibiscus flower leaves, and Asian rock fern; decoct in water and wash with it.

④ Equal amounts of hibiscus flowers and wild chrysanthemum; grind into powder, mix with honey, and apply by smearing.

⑤ Pound wild grape root into a paste and apply to the affected area.

⑥ Appropriate amount of the root bark of southern schisandra; grind into powder, mix with vegetable oil, and apply by smearing.

⑦ Scrophularia root, Chinese violet herb, and mung bean coat 10 grams each; decoct and administer orally (the above is the dosage for a 25 kg pig).

⑧ Purslane and dandelion 100 grams each, or fresh chrysanthemum with stems and leaves 100 grams, decoct and administer orally; the fresh materials can also be pounded into a paste for external application. Suitable for abscesses that have not yet suppurated.

⑨ In the early stage of a body surface abscess, 10% ichthammol ointment or 5% iodine tincture can be applied to reduce inflammation and swelling; in the later stage when an abscess has already formed, it should be incised to drain pus after it matures. Rinse clean with 3% hydrogen peroxide or 0.1% potassium permanganate, then apply anti-inflammatory powder. If there are systemic symptoms, sulfonamide drugs can be administered orally.
