What are the effective fattening methods for commercial rabbits?
Fattening rabbits is the last stage of rabbit production. Its purpose is to produce good rabbit meat and rabbit skins. The fattening of domestic rabbits works best after the skeletal growth and development is complete. The feeding and management of domestic rabbit fattening must meet the following five key points:
1. Concentrate feed point. After the skeletal growth and development of domestic rabbits is complete, the weight gained during fattening is mainly muscle and fat. During fattening, concentrate feed should be the main component, especially feeds rich in carbohydrates, such as sweet potato, potato, taro, radish, etc. And green fodder should be appropriately included.
2. Exercise restriction point. During the fattening period, domestic rabbits should have their exercise restricted to reduce feed consumption. Fattening rabbits can be raised at high density and kept in a warm, dark environment, which can promote the accumulation of body meat and fat.
3. Castration point for male rabbits. Fattening rabbits should undergo castration surgery for male rabbits in order to increase meat yield and reduce feed costs. This is because after castration, metabolism and oxidation in the body are reduced, which helps domestic rabbits accumulate fat. Under the same feeding conditions, castrated male rabbits gain 10%-15% more weight than non-castrated male rabbits.
4. Sufficient drinking water point. During the fattening period, domestic rabbits gradually transition from mainly green fodder to mainly concentrate feed. At this time, the water needs of the domestic rabbits must be met, and clean drinking water must be provided 2-3 times a day.
5. Attention to hygiene point. During the fattening period, domestic rabbits have relatively poor body resistance due to high rearing density, lack of light, and restricted movement, so they are prone to illness. Be sure to pay attention to environmental hygiene and food hygiene to prevent the occurrence of disease.
