The harvest period for lilies is in mid-August, when temperatures are high, the freshly harvested lily bulbs have a high moisture content and vigorous respiration, and they are very prone to mold and rot if not stored properly. Here we introduce a method of storing lilies in sand, which can extend the storage period of lilies to as long as 6 months. 1. Treatment before storage After harvesting, lilies should promptly have the soil, stems and fibrous roots removed; select lilies that are white in color, large, fresh and free of disease spots, then store them by grade. Freshly harvested lilies should be placed in a shaded area, avoiding direct sunlight, to prevent the outer scales from discoloring and losing water. 2. Storage method (1) In the

2. Storage method (1) In the basement, build a storage pool (pit) with bricks; the size of the pool (pit) should be determined according to the quantity of lilies to be stored. (2) Evenly spread a layer of fine sand 6-8 cm thick on the bottom of the pool (pit), place the lilies on the sand, then cover them with a layer of sand 3-4 cm thick, and then arrange a layer of lilies on the sand layer; repeat this layering, with a stacking height of 1 m being appropriate. The sand covering the lilies should be slightly dry, to avoid the lilies rooting and rotting due to excessive humidity. (3) Cover the surrounding sides and top of the lilies with soil (sand, straw), with a covering thickness of 20-30 cm being appropriate; it must not be too thin, otherwise the lilies are prone to dehydration. (4) The storage temperature within the pile should be 6°C-10°C; during storage, check frequently to prevent the lilies from heating up and rotting. If heating does occur, restorage them again according to the above method.
