How to manage a fish pond after the start of winter? These tips you need to know
1. Pond renovation. Use the winter slack season to renovate the pond: turn small ponds into large ponds and shallow ponds into deep ponds. After renovation, the pond's water-holding capacity can be increased and the pond environment improved. Ponds in relatively good condition should also be drained, and excessively thick mud dug out so that the mud thickness is kept at around 20cm. Remove weeds around the pond and raise and reinforce the pond embankments.
2. Pond disinfection. A properly repaired pond should be disinfected with quicklime. Pond disinfection should be carried out on a sunny day. For dry disinfection, use 50-80kg of quicklime per 667 sq m of pond, and 5-10cm of water must be left in the pond so that the sprinkled lime can be distributed evenly; for disinfection with water present, use 120-150kg of quicklime per 667 sq m of pond (when the average water depth is 1m), and the lime lumps should be spread evenly and the whole pond thoroughly stirred to enhance the disinfection effect.
3. Fertilizing the water. 5-6 days after clearing and disinfecting the pond with quicklime, water can be added and fertilizer applied. Apply 500-750kg of pig or cow manure, or 100-200kg of human waste, per 667 sq m to fertilize the pond water, increase the feed organisms in the water and meet the feeding needs of the fish.
4. Stock fish fingerlings early. Stocking @#@233@#@ fingerlings early allows the fish to adapt to the new environment earlier, feed earlier and grow earlier. The period from the Winter Solstice to the Start of Spring is the best time to stock fingerlings, because during this period both the air temperature and water temperature are relatively low, the fish scales are tight, and the fish body is not easily injured during catching and stocking operations, which can reduce the incidence rate and mortality rate of the fingerlings. Fingerlings should be stocked in warm weather; when the temperature is too low, the fish body is prone to frostbite, so stocking is not advisable.
The fingerlings stocked should be large rather than small; the body length is required to be over 20cm, with a small head and broad back, fat and strong, with intact scales and fins, lively swimming, bright body color, and no disease or injury. Such fingerlings have strong adaptability, a high survival rate, fast growth and a large size when harvested from the pond.
5. Fish body disinfection and immunization. When the fingerlings are put into the pond, first soak the fish body in 4% salt water for 5-10 minutes, or soak them in other medicinal solutions for disinfection; some fingerlings should also be injected with immune vaccines.
6. Feeding management. After the fingerlings are put into the pond, if the weather turns cold, deepen the pond water to prevent freezing; when it is sunny and warm, appropriately feed some concentrated feed to ensure the feeding needs of the fish and promote their growth.
