What are the adjunctive treatment methods for pig high fever syndrome?
When pigs suffer from severe colds, pneumonia, influenza, heatstroke, and febrile diseases such as erysipelas and swine pasteurellosis, they often run a fever, sometimes with body temperature reaching above 42°C and remaining persistently high. In clinical practice, drawing on the methods used by human physicians to manage high-fever patients, adjunctive treatment such as pouring cold water over the head and applying cold compresses was used for pigs with high fever syndrome. After treating more than 10 cases, the results were good.
The specific method is: first fill a kettle with well water or cold water, slowly pour it over the sick pig's head, and gently pat it. After pouring is complete, soak a towel or piece of cloth in well water or cold water, fold it into 2-3 layers, and apply it as a cold compress to the head. Replace it once every 5-10 minutes. Use it 2-3 times in succession. For those with especially high body temperature, 35%-50% alcohol or baijiu can also be used to wipe the neck, chest and back, and lower parts of the limbs. The armpits and groin should be wiped repeatedly, preferably until the skin turns red. After treatment by this method, most sick pigs show improved spirits, relief of symptoms, stand up, urinate, and some can even eat a few mouthfuls of feed. At this point, comprehensive treatment can be carried out according to the specific condition.
