Summer High Temperatures, Geese Lack Sweat Glands and Are Prone to Heatstroke: Symptoms and Prevention Methods of Heatstroke in Geese

Geese

Symptoms after heatstroke in geese: Geese suffering from sunstroke mainly show neurological symptoms; affected geese are restless, trembling, convulsing, comatose, with rising body temperature and reddened visible mucous membranes, and die in large numbers. Geese suffering from heatstroke show rapid breathing, open-mouth panting with the neck stretched out, drooping and spread wings, thirst, elevated body temperature, trembling, spasms and collapse, coma, and also die in large numbers.

Methods to prevent heatstroke in goose flocks: When herding geese in summer, they should go out early and return late, avoiding grazing at noon, and cool grazing grounds should be chosen. The goose house should be well ventilated, the flock density should be reasonable, the exercise yard should have tree shade or a sun-shading awning, and sufficient clean drinking water should be provided.

When heatstroke occurs in a goose flock, first aid should be given immediately: drive the geese into water to soak and cool down, or drive them to a shady place to rest, and provide cool drinking water. The geese suffering from heatstroke can also be driven into water for a short soak, and then fed brown sugar water.
