Introduction to the Characteristics of the Silkworm Variety Shaan Silkworm No. 3
Breeding institution: Shaanxi Sericulture Research Institute.
Approval status: approved by the Shaanxi Provincial Crop Variety Approval Committee in 1987, and recognized by the National Crop Variety Approval Committee in 1994.
Variety registration number: GSIlop4-1994.
Variety source: (122x795)x(226x796).
Characteristics: high-yield type, high silk content, Chinese-strain single-sex-limited four-way hybrid, relatively high reproduction coefficient, large silkworm body, large mulberry consumption at the 5th instar, large cocoon shape, high cocoon yield per sheet and per picul of mulberry, and high output value. Average neatness 96 points, cocoon silk fineness 3.00D, reelability rate 75.4%, reelable silk length 871.8 m, cocoon shell rate 25.28%.
Rearing key points: for overwintering eggs, attention should be paid to adjusting the starting embryo; after removal from cold storage, it is advisable to protect them outside the storage for 1-2 days, then raise the temperature for incubation and provide dark protection so that the embryos develop uniformly. For young silkworms, mulberry leaves that are suitably mature but on the tender side are preferable. From day 3 to day 7 of the 5th instar, special attention should be paid to feeding fully on good mulberry leaves. During the mature silkworm stage, the amount of mulberry fed is still very large, so it is not advisable to suddenly reduce the amount of mulberry supplied.
Suitable range: trial rearing in the Northwest region.
