What are the prevention and treatment methods for parotitis in soft-shelled turtles?
In the process of raising soft-shelled turtles, if the water quality is poor and disinfection is not strict, the turtles are very prone to parotitis. Once this disease occurs, it will cause mass mortality. The disease tends to occur in juvenile turtles, and if not handled properly, it can lead to total wipeout, so it must be carefully prevented and treated. The prevention and treatment methods for parotitis in soft-shelled turtles are introduced below.
1. Pathogen: diseased turtles are affected by a virus, with secondary bacterial infection.
2. Symptoms: diseased turtles show weakened activity, often lying at the pond edge or on the feeding platform; the neck is swollen and cannot be freely extended or retracted, but the skin does not turn red; there is general edema, and the plastron is pale and bloodless. Dissection reveals redness and erosion of the gill tissue, which is the key symptom of this disease; the intestines of diseased turtles are filled with purplish-black blood clots; most organs are pale and bloodless; the liver is earth-yellow; and there is fluid accumulation in the abdominal cavity.
3. Prevention and treatment. 1. Prevention. (1) The turtle pond should be frequently refreshed with water to maintain good water quality. (2) Every 10 to 15 days, a medication can be splashed once to prevent disease. Splash quicklime over the whole pond at 30 g to 50 g per cubic meter of water; or splash chlorine dioxide over the whole pond at 1 g to 2 g per cubic meter of water; or splash "Qianglüjing" over the whole pond at 0.5 g to 1 g per cubic meter of water; or splash furazolidone over the whole pond at 5 g per cubic meter of water, once a day for two consecutive days. The above four disease-prevention and disinfection methods should be used alternately in one turtle pond to prevent bacteria from developing drug resistance. (3) "Soft-shelled Turtle Disease Prevention Ling" (a traditional Chinese medicine preparation that improves immune capacity) can be appropriately fed. 2. Treatment. (1) External treatment: splash PV iodine over the whole pond at 1 g to 2 g per cubic meter of water, once a day for more than 3 consecutive days. Or splash chlorine dioxide over the whole pond at 2 g per cubic meter of water, once a day for 3 consecutive days. At the same time, strengthen water changes and improve water quality, changing 1/2 of the pond water every day. (2) Internal medicine bait: for each kilogram of turtle, apply chloramphenicol at 0.2 g per day, or apply "Fishery Bacterial Disease Eliminator" at a dose of 3 g per kilogram of fish per day and mix it into bait for feeding. At the same time, feed the traditional Chinese medicine "Jiansailing" mixed into the feed at 5% for feeding; the effect is relatively good when fed continuously for 7 days.
