Effective prevention and treatment methods for false pregnancy in sows
What is false pregnancy?
After mating, a sow is not actually pregnant, but her belly grows day by day, and her udder gradually enlarges, until in the end some clear milk can even be squeezed out, yet she does not give birth; then the belly and udder gradually shrink back. This phenomenon is called false pregnancy.
Causes of false pregnancy:
First, due to early embryonic death and absorption, the corpus luteum of pregnancy does not disappear, causing progesterone to continue being secreted, as if the pregnancy were still continuing.
Second, due to malnutrition, the sow's endocrine system becomes disordered, and the sow's estrous cycle is delayed or stops.
How to prevent and treat false pregnancy?
To prevent and treat false pregnancy, the main measures are to improve the sow's nutritional conditions before and after mating, prevent and treat reproductive tract diseases in sows, and do a good job of cold protection and warmth in winter. To treat persistent corpus luteum, the sow can be injected with 5 milligrams of prostaglandin and 1000 units of pregnant mare serum.
