What to Do About Organochlorine Pesticide Poisoning in Pigs? Detailed Treatment Methods
1. The cause is feeding pigs forage that was sprayed with 666 or 223 (DDT) pesticides not long before, or using such pesticides to kill lice and mange at too high a concentration, which causes poisoning after pigs lick it.
2. Symptoms: In acutely poisoned pigs, appetite is completely lost, the mouth foams, salivation, vomiting, listlessness, dilated pupils, teeth grinding, convulsions, screaming, paralysis of the hind limbs or all four limbs, labored breathing, diarrhea or anal incontinence; in severe cases, heart sounds become weak and the pig dies of cardiac paralysis. In chronically poisoned pigs, poor appetite, nausea, vomiting, skin flushing, rash with a shiny appearance, general weakness, unsteady walking. If rescued in time, they can recover their health.
3. Necropsy: congestion of the gastric fundus, more severe near the pylorus; the small and large intestines appear purplish-blue; mesenteric lymph nodes are enlarged and appear bluish-black; lungs are congested; the liver is enlarged, congested and necrotic.
4. Prevention: Crops and vegetables that have been sprayed with organochlorine pesticides must wait at least 1 month before being harvested for feed. Strictly prevent pigs from eating or licking food and utensils contaminated with organochlorine pesticides.
