Pigs need a reasonable water supply, and pig farmers must pay attention to it

I. The harm of insufficient drinking water for pigs. At present, in pig raising there is a widespread phenomenon of only paying attention to feeding while neglecting drinking water, not realizing that drinking water for pigs is equally important as feeding, or even more important than feeding. The main harms of insufficient drinking water are: 1. Insufficient drinking water can lead to an increased incidence of intestinal diseases in pigs. In household pig farming by farmers, most use the traditional feeding method of supplying water and feed all at once, and between meals, regardless of the weather conditions and regardless of the type of feed, no drinking water is given. Because pigs are thirsty due to insufficient drinking water, especially in hot summer, they often drink dirty water

I. The harm of insufficient drinking water for pigs. At present, in pig raising there is a widespread phenomenon of only paying attention to feeding while neglecting drinking water, not realizing that drinking water for pigs is equally important as feeding, or even more important than feeding. The main harms of insufficient drinking water are:

1. Insufficient drinking water can lead to an increased incidence of intestinal diseases in pigs. In household pig farming by farmers@#@227@#@, most use the traditional feeding method of supplying water and feed all at once, and between meals, regardless of the weather conditions and regardless of the type of feed, no drinking water is given. Because pigs are thirsty due to insufficient drinking water, especially in hot summer, phenomena such as drinking dirty water often occur, and this phenomenon directly causes pigs to suffer from multiple intestinal diseases.

2. Insufficient drinking water can lead to reduced digestibility in pigs and increased feeding costs. In the pen-raising method of pigs, only 2 to 3 feedings of water-mixed feed are given each day, and the water supply is extremely insufficient. Especially for finishing pigs, a large amount of energy feed is supplemented daily, and this energy feed needs to absorb a large amount of water before it can be digested, absorbed and transported by the pig's body, and a series of physiological activities such as the elimination of metabolites from the body also require sufficient water. Farmers only feed 2 to 3 times a day and then keep the pigs in a narrow pen, causing the pigs to develop intestinal dryness and heat, weakened intestinal peristalsis, incomplete nutrient absorption, gradually reduced feed intake, lower digestibility, and hindered growth and development, etc.

II. Strengthen the management of drinking water for pigs. 1. Set up drinking troughs. In order to meet the drinking water needs of pigs, pig farmers should give pigs drinking water at least 4 to 5 times a day. It is best to set up dedicated drinking troughs in the pig house or activity area, so that pigs can drink freely and meet the water needs of pig growth and development.

2. Provide drinking water according to the physiological characteristics of pigs. For every 1 kg of dry feed a pig consumes, it needs 2 to 5 kg of drinking water. In winter, the drinking water intake of pigs is slightly lower; for every 1 kg of dry feed consumed, 2 to 4 kg of water is needed; in spring and autumn, for every 1 kg of dry feed consumed, a pig needs 8 kg of water; in summer, for every 1 kg of dry feed consumed, a pig needs 10 kg of water. Lactating sows need even more water.
